Platini is pushing for champions league entry for domestic cup winners. The change of rules will take effect from 2008-09 season if approved by UEFA.

Not sure if it's good news for us, but for sure it'll add more spice to FA cup fixture. I suspect the league will suffer a cut in qualification slot from 4 to 3 or maybe 2.
We might even see the likes of wigan or blackburn appearing in champions league if they reach the final and the other finalist is assured of top 2 finish. Just my speculation though.
If that's the way it's set, I believe champions league will lose it's glamour. I'd prefer to watch Milan vs Barcelona than some small teams from slovenia or whatever. This might affect the potential TV revenue as well and thus making it a less money spinning competition in the long run.

Cant see anything coming of this idea, how would the UEFA Cup qualifications spots be changed ? less teams qualify or from 5th to 8th inclusive through the Prem ?
With our Cup runs of the last 12 years amounting to zilch it makes no difference anyway. ;)

the filth scum rat [Poor language removed] bastards won the league cup a few years back and the (old division 1) finalists were passed over for the so called guaranteed place in europe.

as it is now, its going to take quite something for a so called small club to reach any final let alone elbow its way onto the european stage.
