Champions League revamp

How do you mean mate (which bit)?
Well the overseas market is huge. Say what you like about the people behind this, but one thing they definitely aren't is stupid. They know full well there is a huge market for this proposal, they aren't just doing this on a whim. The price of UK rights has been going down while the price of overseas rights is going up. Those people want to see Liverpool, United, Arsenal, Chelsea etc. And obviously UK rights would take a big hit because 6 of the biggest supported clubs in the country would no longer be in the league. Fans of those clubs will be paying DAZN, they won't paying Sky to watch the PL when they aren't in it. It would be like me getting a Sky subscription to watch the Championship.

Ain't it mad how loads of people can't think long term?

If these six were binned off, it really wouldn't take that long before you'd have a 'new big six' in its' place unless football overall gets a salary cap/college draft-esque system.

Playing Man Utd/Liverpool/City only has the gravitas it does because they've won things. If Leicester won the title for the next five years on the spin, they have the same status.

Who the hell gave a toss about playing Chelsea or City until 10-15 years ago? Nobody!

Winds me up when you see Chelsea/City fans say: "imagine how boring the CL would be with Everton and Leeds in it"

When as you say 15 years ago Man City were some little tinpot yoyo club no one gave a damn about.

I really hope they just go - be absolutely fantastic if we dont try stop them and kick them out tomorrow.

Wont happen though the PL and Government will drag this out for months on their knees begging for "negotiations" and "dialogue".

I believe this is down to covid. They've been trying to set up a super league for years now, but it's never been really on the cards because "the big clubs" always had the edge financially and FFP made it hard for the other to catch up.

However all of these "big clubs" have been hit harder than anybody by the loss of matchday income, and covid has been a big leveller. Add in the legal problems facing FFP and these so called "big clubs" are seeing the writing on the wall. In the UK it's even worse as there are 6 clubs fighting for 4 UCL places, but all 6 clubs need the income from it. Ironically 4 of them may miss out on it this year (anybody else now rooting for Leicester and Wets Ham?) and that will be devastating for them on the back of covid. So this guaranteed income from the ESL is an absolute Godsend for them as they each strive to maintain their domestic financial control.

I actually also think they all believe they are too important for their respective football associations and domestic leagues to take serious punitive action against them. That arrogance in itself is sufficient for me to hope they throw them all out.

Newcastle did the double on us... I expect us to finish lower next season if those 6 break away.

Oh also... last EFC LFC game. Nice to finish a rivalry on top.
It'll be different if we're expected to take the initiative most weeks. We'll get used to it and play better. Part of our problem this season is some weeks we're going at teams and some we're playing deep and we can't get good at both.

I don't know how Wednesday night games in Europe are going to appeal to the Asian market. 9pm in Barcelona is 4am in the Far East.

Europe is a much bigger market than the US when it comes to football and always will be - a significantly larger population and a culture of being football-mad.

There is too much of this that is ill though-out on a fundamental level. I think it will be still born, but will cause huge problems for the 12 scab clubs involved.

If they're being given £300m every year they cannot be allowed to participate in the Premier League, it craps on sporting integrity.

The more I think about, the more I think this is a bluff by these big clubs....this is simply another way of moving the goalposts again, and getting themselves a new deal in the Champions league...

Just look at England....once it was the Sky 4, and they were fairly well protected as far as Champions league football and money went....then City came along, now its 5 clubs fighting for 4 spots, thats doable....

then suddenly Leicester broke into it, Spurs broke into...now its 7 clubs fighting for 4 spots...

then we get money, and have closed the gap, now its potentially 8 clubs fighting for 4 spots....big problem...

currently Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea (3 of the original Sky 4) are now out of the CL places....financially they can't have that....so they're fighting to change the rules again...give us more money, but also give us more CL spots...

Ultimately I think that's what will happen...UEFA will back down, and give these clubs more money and more places...and the PL will happily go along with it...
The 3 main leagues will get extra CL places, and life carries on....
UEFA and various FA's will not like it, but I don't think they can afford to lose their top clubs (will they simply cant sadly)...its a kick in the balls to them and us fans too, but we may have to live with it...
