we used to sing tht at school always preferred it to national anthem.

Anyone who watched the FA Cup Final yesterday must surely have thought the same as the dreary old 'Gooooood saaaaaave ouuuurrrr graaaaaaaaaaaaacccciooooosss queeeeeeeeeennnnn' (etc) was trotted out after the stirring 'Land Of My Fathers'. Playing/singing it last always makes it sound even more of a dirge than it is! OK, keep it as the United Kingdom anthem but for God's sake let's also have an anthem for England (remember that country?) that makes the hairs stand up on the back of the neck.

My father was great man and a proud Englishman, and 'Jerusalem' was his favourite hymn. It was with sadness that we all sang it at his funeral last year and I will do my damnedest to help the cause to make it at least England's sporting anthem!

At the world cup final in 66 we sang Rule britannia and it sounded great,well it did to me any how.

i always thought land of hope and glory was "englands" anthem

we taunted the convicts at the s.c.g. in the ashes with god save your queen and followed it up with "thank you very much for paying our royals, thank you very much thank you very very very much", yes reidy was on form in the founding of the barmy army.

someone started a petition on the downing st site to make "true" by spandau ballet the national anthem.
i personally would get fifa to play g.s.the.queen at all scotland, wales, australia and nz games as it is officially their national anthem.and the highest court of law for them remains the privvy council in london........................stick it up em i say

however, if i could select a song for the english national anthem, i'd be very keen on "lily the pink".

Remember the 'Audience with Billy Connolly' when he said the National Anthem should be the theme from The Archers? Classic!

I agree by the way that 'Land of Hope and Glory' would be just as good but it seems that, whereas the rest of the UK can please themselves, we English - as usual - just put up with whatever's forced on us!
