Grew up in NY (die hard Yankees fan!) relocated to sunny Florida shortly after 9/11.
Played a bit of "soccer" in college at small conference/school but in our top division (think Hull City). But even that was only b/c too small/not quite good enough to make it in baseball. Almost "got nothing else to do & love sports too much to not play something" deal. Never followed any team professionally & in retrospect probably didn't know what I was doing at the time. Interestingly, was very turned off by the college soccer dynamic of "reverse racism". For example, about half the squad was foreign (several Irish, a Hungarian, the rest mostly South American). Imports always had easy paths to 1st team, even though us Americans often whipped them in training scrimmages. Quite frustrating that whole situation was, although may have changed (that was 10-12 years ago). I get the impression our boys go through some of this abroad, although hard to say how much is fair vs. actual bias?
Anyway, as I've grown older I now realize how great the game is & on weekends it's now early morning Europe action rather than American throw/eggball (mostly). Plus my girlfriend's from Spain (actually Basque, like Arteta....talk about some interesting folks, could be its own discussion in itself!) so that's very much influenced me as well.
As w/ most Yanks here, started w/ Timmay, blew up w/ Mandon, but now has turned into a genuine appreciation for your team & supporters. To say I've been impressed, entertained, & appreciative of you guys would be an understatement. GOT's the perfect mix of passion, wit, & open mindedness for my liking!
Oh, & pineapples on pizza??? Coming from a Guido New Yorker (we take our pizza VERY seriously) about as cool as a boner in sweatpants I say.
