Ok, i am considering a trip to the U.S. for my birthday in mid/late March. I am hoping to go skiing and hopefully catch an nba game at the same time, preferably Chicago.

Can any of you guys over there give me some advice on if this is a good time for skiing over there, and what ski areas are good for relatively low budget hols and near an nba city.

Cheers,
P

Seattle. They have the Sonics and they have the Cascades to ski in, some of the BEST mountains in the world. They are fairly decent priced as far as ski areas go (the bargain of all-time when compared to Aspen or any other Gucci resorts in Colorado).

Not only does Seattle have the Sonics playing, they also have the Seahawks if you are into Grid-iron or check out the EMP (Experiance Music Project). The city is clean and absolutely ROCKS if you like music. All kinds of clubs playing excellent live music all the time. Seattle is my absolute favorite city in the US, bar none.

Staying directly in Seattle will be costly (the same as any city), but if you stay in one of the outskirts you can always find reasonable accomodation for decent money.

On the snow mountain front, if you do choose Seattle, you can also experiance Whistler in Vancouver BC in Canada (a couple of hours drive north). This is where the US National Ski team go for their recreation, it is where the Royal family go for their winter holidays. In short, it is breathtaking. Good fun too.

God, I love the Pacific North-West, and here I am, stuck on the east coast :(

Skiing in the Northeast, Vermont/New Hampshire is pretty cheap and the skiing is pretty good too. However if you want to go to Chicago though then you might just want to head west to Utah-Colorado. Speaking of which Denver is a much more exciting NBA team to watch than mind blowingly boring Chicago, so unless you plan on going to Chicago for things other than an NBA game (its a great city) don't go.

Well i would like to visit Chicago itself as i've been to New york a few times and want to see somewhere else, and i particularly want to see the Bulls as i am a fan plus they have Deng and Gordon. However neither of these is a must.

I skied in Breckenridge last year and Beaver Creek a few years before that and that's been the extent of my life's skiing experiences.

Don't think I'd be much help.
