Am thinking of getting qualifications in IT to try and get a job in IT.

I love being on the PC and know more then the basics in computing.

But has anyone been with this company called CompuTeach?

They seem decent and get you your qualifications and then help you looking for a job.

Thanks everyone.

Cal your young - why not just get a college qualification or go through an apprenticeship route?

I think CompuTeach is really aimed at older people who have long finished education or people who are well into a career looking for a change.

I quit college and i dont fancy going back really cus i thought it was [Poor language removed].

I'm not sure really.

Go back to college now while you have the chance. You really don't want to be 30 and wishing you had done it when you had the chance. Doing it while you are young, single and relatively bill-free is the way to do it.

Computeach always struck me as being rather mickey mouse. It's unlikely that any course will provide you with the depth of knowledge to specialise in a discipline. Take programming for instance. Even on a degree it's unlikely that you'll do more than a few months on a language, so you'll get an introduction into it but in depth knowledge comes from experience.

What employers need to know is that you have the capability to learn. College provides that, plus of course computing is a rare thing in that you can try out lots of things at home on your own computer.

It does depend on what area you want to get into though really. It you wanted to get into IT support then a MCSE or CCNA might be a good starting point. You'll need to get as much knowledge as you can though (and evidence of that knowledge, either through qualifications or experience) because India et al churn out very smart IT people for a fraction of what you'd charge.

I feel for you Cal it sounds like you are at a bit of a cross roads of what to do in life. The industry that I work in and love is the events industry. There is something that gives me the ultimate buzz in seeing a well organised event coming off and the buzz of when it takes place- from a conference for 10 people up to a concert for thousands.

Event staffing for events are always needed and its a good way to get into the industry- Liverpool hosts thousands of events- if you thought it could be your thing Im sure you could get into it. Just a thought like.

No it didnt.

Well i want to be in the Police when im older but because they dont really accept young people and tend to go for people older and with more life expierence, just doing something now would be great.

Obviously i am working and earning some cash, not alot but some!, just need to do something, to get my parents off my back would be 1 thing lol, but just im bored ;)

thanks for the tip peeps.

[SIZE=-1]'No one is poor except he who lacks knowledge'

go to college, get some form of A levels, what did you enjoy at school? as you have the opportunity, grasp it whilst you can. no one can take your education from you. studying can be very hard, but no one is making you choose maths, physics and chemistry.

oh, and the police like it if you have a capable grasp of history, the capacity for remembering important events and the details, that sort of thing.

i was doing a national diploma in Sport but it was [Poor language removed] so i quit.

i hated it and i did a year and abit but i wasnt liking it anymore.

i dont wanna go back.

I miss school :(

Develop a serious alcohol addiction for a couple of years, that will pass the time.

Or do what I did and do some mundane office work for a couple of years to moody into young impressionable girls and then [Poor language removed] it off when you find something worthwhile you want to do.

I [Poor language removed] off College too mate, it bored the [Poor language removed] out of me - its not qualifications that gets you jobs, its experience.

I don't know what Computeach are like, but i investigated a similar company a couple years ago, and the courses they offered got a MCSE/A or CCNA. Cost £8k tho :(

Not sure if computeach are comparable or that advanced tho. But certainly there are places out there that offer decent quals. Most of the time tho they have special rules about the jobs you take, eg you have to take a job they find you in the 1st 6 months after your qualification.

Go to university.

Please.

The following is a list detailing the priorities of people at Uni. (or at least the 9 people I lived with)

  1. Sleeping
  2. Cheap beer
  3. Kebabs
  4. Frivolous relationships
  5. Coursework

I often regretted going to Uni for the reasons detailed by the honourable Mr Meiser above.

I had a few student types as [Poor language removed] buddies and I envied their lifestyle.
