has anyone ever heard of this before??

right plugging in my phone to my home comp using usb and the computer itself hisses at me, then after a few seconds resets..

on the screen it does pick the phone up, and appears to be installing the driver... but dont get that far

it works with other devices like usb harddrives etc, and i have tried it in 6 different usb ports on my comp...

also the phone works fine on my laptop??

very confused.....

any ideas people??

plug it in with the phone turned off, then switch it on.

is it usb or usb2.0?

if you can get it working via laptop, ethernet the laptop to the desktop and more files that way.

What OS are you using? Make sure the USB ports are properly plugged into the mobo jacks.

the usb ports are fine, working with everything else

im using windows xp on both laptop and desktop

i am just changing internet companies and they wouldnt give me a mac code so without the net for a week so using my mobile phone as a modem, ok using a laptop but much prefer it on my home pc if possible...

Actually, chico is right. I have not had a single problem with Vista since I installed it. And with SP1 on the horizon, it will only get better. A lot of the SP1 beta testers have been raving about it (and many of them were highly critical of Vista on it's release). Mid-March release for SP1, mark it on the calendar!

Jon, as for your problem, there is obviously a conflict with your particular set-up. How long has it been since your last re-format and re-install? It may be a hardware conflict, but more likely a software conflict.

last reinstalled last week....

as for vista vs xp... i was running vista on my home pc and although i didnt have any major probs with it, wasnt that keen just yet on it so jumped back to xp for a while...

this phone model worked fine on both xp and vista until about 2 days ago

Ah [Poor language removed] Dylan, I was setting that up for you to bite. When did you convert to Vista.

Since you know about computers, the service pack thing: do I get it for free as I already have Vista or what?

Has you phone had any updates, like a java one? We recently had a problem at work with Java that screwed our whole network. It may have done a number on your phone.

Oh, Blackberry released a Java update over here that effectively killed every Blackberry phone regardless of network. Caused all the users to loose everything on their phones.

iv got the lg viewty, and i dont think its had any updates, but im still using it on my laptop right now !!!! ????

Almost a month ago I made the switch. The Service Pack is 100% free, provided you have a legal copy ;)

Jon, it is obviously something on your desktop that your phone doesn't like. I recommend backing everything up and doing a complete format, like the old >:Format C: /s of the old DOS days. Then reinstall everything one by one. That's what I would do if I really wanted my phone to work.

However, if your phone works just fine on the laptop, just keep using that instead of your desktop.

My veteran computer just died again.

Hoping to bring it back from the bring later on tonight though, just got myself an XP disk so hoepfully that'll do the trick.
