Amazing to think that Maradona never played in the Copa Libertadores.

Hopefully there's another Rover v Boca clash in the next few weeks.

And the utter carnage!

I remember reading the match report of the away leg Celtic had to play in the Intercontinental Cup against Racing Club: 'The Battle of Montevideo'. They played to win the South American clubs!
Estudiantes were another notorious team from that era. After they'd 'entertained' Man Utd even Matt Busby said they should be banned from all competitive football. Carlos Bilardo, future World Cup winning coach, was their captain, while their star player was Juan Ramon Veron, father of Juan Sebastian, later of Man U.

Apparently, the three games from 1967 to 1969 resulted in 9 players being sent off!

That's right yeah, I remember reading that in the Jonathan Wilson book Angels With Dirty Faces: The Footballing History of Argentina....which is a great book, btw.

Have you ever read "Football in Sun and Shadow"?

It's a fantastic book mostly focused on South American teams and players, well worth a look
