I can see the England discussion is veering into talk about the US, so why not it's own thread?

Home of the free, vast unspoilt nature, driver of a lot of culture and cultural reference points (on these shores at least), the US and its people are flawed, but okay, right? Hell, our very own @TheBigIguana is a prime export.

I’m surprised any Americans actually exist. I nearly died after a few weeks of eating the food there. Made the mistake of ordering a starter once in a place in Florida and nearly burst my stomach open halfway through the main.

South & Central Americas folk don't like hearing USA being colloquially referred to as America.

On the other hand, they've made a ton of great movies.

Come up with some great comedies and good tv series. They've put a fair amount of money into scientific development.

In every other respect they're about the only nation that makes us look good. Bunch of insular, over opinionated, money obsessed, exploitative, capitalist, gun-toting, warmongering, war funding, meddling loons.

I was at this conference one time in college, and there was this Oxford student there. He expressed surprise at the competence of American students, saying, "We get this [REDACTED] you call your media, and we get a certain impression." I told him that he was dealing with the cream of our crop, and that there were plenty of clods over here that would fit neatly into his prejudices.

Which is true of any country, really. This one's big, there's a lot to see, we have some lovely people and we have some real morons. The morons seem to be winning the numbers game of late.
