Country Discussion: Big Country

Pretty sure I read a review (Maybe in Q magazine) saying a greatest hits album could be a single on repeat because they all sound exactly the same. No idea if it's true, I only ever heard "Big Country" (the single)

Or did I?

A lot of the music press liked to sneer at them mate, as even when the Crossing ( their first album ) went to number one, some of the music press continued to put them down, deeming them to be unfashionable and uncool.

The bass player - Tony Butler, was one of the best in the business ( imo ) and their gigs, where legendary. Just massive parties with music.

The drummer - Mark Brezicki - played for the Cult at the same time and was on the drums, on the legendary Love album.

That's fair enough, I honestly can't remember anything they did beyond the self titled single. (which was catchy enough)

I'll give "The Crossing" a listen on Spotify over the weekend.

One of their best albums, for a first time listen is :

Without the Aid of a Safety Net.

It’s a live recording, of a legendary gig in Glasgow.

All the hits and it really captures the atmosphere of them at their peak.
