they're bigger & stronger than Brit lasses, wear less make-up, shave less and are less arsed about fashion...but there's a fierce can-do independence about them which is attractive.

A relatively young country that aspired to be like the British empire and caused two world wars because of it. They lost both but ended up being better off than us because agter extensive bombing they were forced to rebuild and modernise whereas we conservatively carried on with what we had and fell behind.
