It's not just EITC anyway, Everton as a football club is one to be proud of, we tend to try and do things the right way.

What is the right way? Does it involve having a ban from signing youth players for breaching the rules?

Football has been a capitalist game for years and Everton have been at it from the get go.

Ferguson always seems to figure in this type of thread, yet he was really close to getting the sack. Yes he did build a culture at United, but by the skin of his teeth.

As did Howard Kendall! The purpose of the club isn’t to win things, that is a fallacy. The purpose of the club is to entertain. Those who buy into the ethos of Everton FC just to see us win silverware, quickly move off and support the latest flavour of the month. I pay my money to go to the game to have a laugh, be entertained, and if the planets align properly, to get bladdered afterwards. Chuck in some silverware and I am in heaven, but so long as I enjoy going to the game, I can suffer not winning things.

Changing manager so often means founding a culture has been difficult. So much money in the Prem now that if Ancelotti got us anywhere near the situation Ferguson found himself in he'd be long gone. Ten games in next season and if we are not near top 6-8 the knives will be out.

There's a lot of good points in this. Just to take issue on a couple though.

1) Do you think there is enough scrutiny on anyone at the club? And if not, would people perform better if there were?
2) If the club went out, and employed say, Brian Gilvary as Chairman and say Terry Leahy as CEO, what changes to the culture would it make?
3) Do you think Marcel Brands is being pulled in by the CEO to explain what went wrong re recruitment this year?

I don't see it.

Then it clearly doesn't happen.

I applaud that ,sadly we have no choice at the moment but to suffer .You are entirely correct though it tis he club that we support as the teams come and go .I used to love the few before and after the game and it is for a lot part of the day .

I don't agree that Everton should be 25 years without a major trophy. Our fan base went 14 years between drinks in the seventies through to HK and as league title winners in 39 we suffered following WW2, but as Everton we always suffer a bit, but 17 years after WW2 silverware drinks again.

We now glory in providing meals and pencil cases for deserving cases. The key is a relevant football club and I feel we have been losing that for a long time.

There's no doubt being successful on the pitch solves a multitude of sins. I'm not having Kenwright and DBB as a CEO are top draw in their roles though. I'm not even against either being on the board. I'd happily keep Bill along in an unnamed role to scrutine, and DBB to me seems far better suited to PR/Comms & Operations management.

1) We seem reactive rather than proactive, changes only happen when things go nuclear, its hard to say
2) We don't know, I have no idea how different to DBB these people would be, its impossible to say
3) I think Brands knows that things could have gone better, but I suspect there is a bit of leeway given considering the injuries to Gmblammo. I doubt he thinks he's done a good job and I suspect he will be doing all he can to correct his "mistakes"

Admittedly there was a time when I looked at Everton in the Community and gestures the club have made with a sense of cynicism, that part of it was about perception, reputation and wanting to look good in the eyes of many rather than wholeheartedly the deeds themselves. Virtue signalling as it were.

That was then, the more I looked into it the more I appreciate the people doing genuine work and genuinely helping others through difficult times. It’s great the club and EITC do these things, it shouldn’t have an effect for on the pitch matters. It should compliment them if anything.

The clubs motto should be abided by in all aspects otherwise it’s a hollow spout that becomes meaningless and I don’t care for those who are alright as long as “them lot don’t win anything”. It shouldn’t be about them, it should always be about us, how we improve and win things. For me Everton has tons of potential not being realised, I’d love it to some day.

The reason we are crap on the pitch is because we have crap players. Nothing else.

Some players are just crap, and some are just awesome, no matter where they are playing. But the majority will respond to the culture of the club and play accordingly.

Do you think Morgan Schneiderlin is a crap player? (hear me out here)
Because he was far from that at Southampton - excellent defensive mid season after season, prob not at that elite level but easy one of the better players in his position in the league. Gets a move to ManU and doesn't quite make it, so we get him at the age of 27 (should be prime for his position) and he proceeds to phone it in and is the definition of a crap, CBA player who stinks out GP on the reg.

Now that's on him first and foremost but our culture has enabled that. Has to have. He was at a crossroads in his career and could have fought to prove everyone wrong or he could just start giving 95% instead of 100% (which is the same as giving up in elite sports terms) and that's what was allowed to happen at Everton.

Good podcast that one from the Esk. Brands dissected and seen as the man he is: out of his depth in terms of owner and manager he works for and the league he's in.

....I always want us to display values of decency on the pitch. I know some on here want players surrounding the referee and ‘snide’, but we’re better than that.

Football is a mix of quality and attitude. Our most successful teams had both in abundance but still retained the values of football, the values of sport. I like to think we have a reputation for decency and class, long may that continue.

My biggest fear is that the BMD project goe's West.

For myself, and many other fans, it would be the final straw.

Our current culture is one of failure, false promises, and taking the fans for granted.

At this moment in time, I don't believe one word that comes out of the club.
