Hi everyone,

Just introducing myself, I'm nigh on 34 & from Cumbria but I live down in Reading now, I found GOT through the forum link on Toffeeweb, the Mailbag on there does my head in half the time but I check the site a few times a day without fail, anyone who uses the google chrome browser home page thingy knows that it's a bit like the prem, once you hit a site a few times it plants itself on your home page like the sky-4 plant themselves in the conciousness of many an opposing team and everyone else gets scared off.

I don't think I've ever told this story before because I think I have reservations that it makes me sound a bit less Evertonian if you know what I mean.. but...
I became an Evertonian on the yard of my primary school during a 'playtime' lol when I must have been about 8 years old. I'd recently moved house so joined a new school & I remember it more clearly than most memories from school. I was surrounded by 5 or 6 lads (there was only about 60 kids in our whole primary school) in a particularly tense moment and I was pressured there & then into nailing my colours to the mast. Prior to this I'd been playing football as much as a kid does but my father was a Publican (works weekends) & follower of country/blood sports so I'd not picked up any fervent interest in supporting football and as such I had little knowledge of the current state of the league or whatever else, I knew that Utd, Spurs, The [Poor language removed] etc were big teams but not much else. Anyway, the cool (hard as nails!) kid piped up and said, 'You're an Everton supporter right?' another kid who I was striking up a good friendship with agreed & the rest is history, call me impressionable...

That would have been late 1984 or early 85 as I remember it being cold! I would love to say that my first memory of anything Everton was Winning the League or the Cup Winners Cup but in reality I didn't start following results & watching games until I was hitting my teens in '89. On the day Hillsborough happened I was at a friends house who had moved from Newcastle, he was older than me & his reaction to the things that were happening on TV told me that this wasn't to be joked about, I think that day threw football into my consciousness & I had my local post office get hold of a copy of the programme for the final which I've still got. (Is this still possible from post offices?)
My Brother supported the [Poor language removed] back then (now & forever more Sheff Utd) & like many others I used to enjoy watching the football that they played.
I didn't buy newspapers when I was 13 & I've never knowingly bought a copy of the Sun since then, I try to avoid their website too, is that overkill? I don't know, I went to College in Liverpool (1/2 price season ticket holder 86-87) & my Bro married a Scouser so I think it's only right.

My all time favourite player is a tricky one, throughout the 90's I'd have to say Tony Cottee & Big Dunc, though I have a soft spot for Joe Parkinson & Anders Limpar was great to watch. From the current bunch I greatly admire Tim Cahill, I think the way he handles himself off the field & the respect he shows for the club is immense, I would say because of this Cahill is actually my all time favourite but if Rodwell stays for long enough that might change & Arteta is just gravy.

Pineapple on Pizza rulez ok. (y)

Beyond the usual online annals my knowledge of Everton's history is pretty average, for the times I lived through I have a terrible memory.. I abused drugs in my early 20's :dodgy: I would also like to find some things out about the times pre my football conciousness.

We all know that rationality & football don't often mix so it'll come as no surprise that I fell in love with Rapid Vienna last night & I want to know if that's acceptable & if it's common amongst Evertonians given our little slice of history together & if so are there any sort of supporters clubs or such like. I spent hours last night google translating Rapid Vienna fan sites, I learned about the replayed European match they had against Celtic.. man those Celtic fans really don't care much for Rapid Vienna.

Looking forward to it.

Love them too, fair play too them. Villa can't be bothered, their loss. Glad Vienna got the job done twice over Villa, well done and best of luck to them.

Welcome to GOT

Nice long first post :)

You missed my birthday celebrations by joining after midnight!! Welcome to GOT :hay: I am the resident unruly female who goes off topic - often in an innappropriate manner. Pineapple on pizza - SPOT ON!

Thanks for the welcome (get to bed you 2!?) & Happy belated Birthday Hayee.

Re Vienna, I think love is the only way to describe it, I'm sat here thinking, 'When can I get to Vienna & I need to learn German' lol thought their supporters were something else, not really much point imo in comparing them to English crowds as I've seen debated during my google session last night but I want to be part of that crowd before I pop my clogs.
