I work in health care. If I did what he did. I'd be sacked and struck off, never allowed to work in the field again. Doesn't help me have sympathy for the bloke.

Irish times today.

200 hrs of unpaid community work
Banned from driving 20 months
6000 in damages

Judge asked him what he would think if his kids were involved in a car accident while out cycling and what if he would think if found out the driver was over the limit.

Angry and said he was embarrassed and sorry and if he could turn back time he would not have gone out the night before never mind drive a car.

He also stated he had been out the previous evening with everton team mates and had drank "copious amounts of alcohol" gone home and later had an argument with his wife which lead to him leaving in his car.

Lucky boy got away lightly. Everybody can make a mistake. I don't know if this was his first. If yes so be it. Injury has finished his career anyway.

disappointed with professional athletes drinking copious amounts of alcohol even on their days off,
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Standard practice in the old days but in this day and age I thought most players would be pretty health conscious. This (piss up) would have been on the night that we beat Soton 3-0.

That's alright then fella, As long as it was only drink driving then, what a relief.:pint2:

Just all an elaborate plot by the cyclist to call Accident helpline I reckon. Where there's blame there's a claim.

In all honesty if he is drink driving and hitting and running, it's either one of two things, he is either a scum bag or there are some serious underlying issues. Now I for one don't think the guy is a scumbag, so my guess and hope is that Everton help him through this time and more importantly he gets help himself. If he misbehaves again he is shown the door. We are a club with class and we should help our own.
Only drink driving? Its scum and should be sacked

This sort of thing should be recognised by the FA as bringing the game into disrepute, being a sporting 'personality' he is a role model for society who should be setting standards for his 'fans' to follow.

The least Everton should do is suspend him from playing (although his body does that for him, breaking in a strong wind) and dock wages to set an example.

I would honestly prefer to see the club take him off the playing roster and put him in rehab.

Utter garbage if you were an employer who you had a person like Gibbo who was a sicknote the first chance you got legitimately to get him out of contract i.e. sack him you would take that opportunity - he is never fit never plays now he has a drink problem!

If you racially abused someone then bit another you'd be sacked as well though not given another better contract , courted by another employer and nominated for an award I wouldn't have thought .

Football is different , it just is and we all have to get used to that . Also in fairness it wouldn't effect the role I do other than the driving issue so it's not across the board that people would be dismissed .

Yeh every-things fine he nearly killed someone - any one else i.e. a normal member of the public you would be eating porridge in Walton jail!

For drink driving, due care and failing to stop ? I'm not convinced on that , the daily mail rants everyday about nobody going to nick any more so I'm pretty sure something so trivial doesn't and talking of the daily mail isn't it hyperbole to say he nearly killed someone I thought the injuries where minor ?

This fella is a known drunk though who offers us nothing anymore. He is a waste of space.

So cos Pienaar offered us something at the time he is forgiven but our players gets injured a lot and so drink driving is a bigger offence than him?! What about pienaar hitting some bird? Also forgiven.
