plenty of very good players come from pretty crap leagues.
It's not the point being made. If the competition in the league is poor then how can you believe someone who plays there can make an impact here? The pace, physicality and all round superior quality is likely to be overwhelming coming from that to this.

Maybe his 14 International caps, his 11 Champions League appearances (that's not including his 6 Champions League qualification games) or his 26 Europa League appearances?

That's over 50 games at the a pretty high level regardless of his domestic league.

I'm not saying he's a great signing cos I personally don't know enough about him, but you can't just rubbish his league and says he's not good enough based on that. He's clearly got something.
But you only get those stats form qualifying regularly from a poor league. It's not really earned.

The Dutch league is ranked by UEFA as 13th most important in Europe mate. Behind nations like Ukraine, Belgium, Turkey, Czech Republic, Russia...

It's a backwater now.

Lol. I think you'll find UEFA don't produce a list called 'most important'. If you believe that list, Cyprus's league is 'more important' than the Norway, Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary, Iceland and Finland leagues. Do you also agree with that? Or that the Israeli league is 'more important' than the Scottish league?

Also if you believe the FIFA world rankings, Chile (4th) are better than France (6th) and Spain (10th).

By that logic though it means that no player coming to the premier league from any league will be ready if we're basing it on physicality and pace. Surely it's just on their natural talent rather than where they happen to have started their trade?

Fancy enlightening us in how good the Croatian league is, and how that means a player coming from there won't be able to make the step up?

Wonder how that Modric kid is getting on. What's that you say? He's the finest player in the world in Klaassen's position? Oh my!

Quite happy to give the lad a go. We signed Cahill from a poor Millwall side and he was brilliant for us. It is ridiculous to write him off before he even signs because of the team and league he is in. He isn't playing in the number 1 league no, but he certainly isn't playing against teams at the level of Tranmere is he?

Lets just wait and see what happens and try not to write him off after 2 games.

Regardless of how it was earned he still played in some very big games for Ajax in Europe. So anyone trying to judge if he was good enough can look over those appearances against Barcelona (3), Man Utd (2), Real Madrid (1), AC Milan (1), Paris SG (2), Lyon (3), Celta Vigo (2) amongst others.

@davek says we should only sign players from spain, germany and france. imagine all the great players we'd overlook with that logic

You get a player who have been established in one of the top leagues and you're almost guaranteed a player that can cope with the PL. They certainly wont be overawed.

The Dutch league has taken a massive nose dive in recent years and we cant say with any confidence that any Dutch player will make the transition.

I just worry that we saw the real Klaassen in that EL final against a poor United team. Completely outclassed and beyond useless to affect matters.
