Day Out With Thomas

So, this past weekend (Friday actually), we took Ethan to ride on Thomas in Waterbury, CT (75mile trip, each way). So in 90 degree heat we managed it, and while Thomas looked impressive, it was in fact a crock. He really isn't a train, there was another engine at the other end doing the work. The passenger carriages had no ac or fans, and we had to sit for 30 minutes sweltering before we set off.

Then the ride, we managed about 3 miles an hour, and it went right through the butt-crack of Waterbury, litter, debris, junked cars all along the track. To say I was a little disappointed for something we spent over $80 on, would be an understatement.

We anxiously await the October Thomas event at the Essex Museum (a MUCH better train ride there, up along the scenic river), which will eclipse the poor show put on at Waterbury.

Here are the usable pics from our journey, notice, I was representing.

OH and I met Sean O'Hanlon's cousin. He was a youth/reserve player for us a couple of years back! Small world huh?

Click the pics for bigger ones.

Ethan's face says it all in the first photo!!

"You paid HOW MUCH for this??!" :D

hope you get a better ride at the other event!

Nah, he was afraid of the great big fat, sweaty, hairy scary dude trying to take our official pic and charge us $50 for the privilege.

seriously?

Sounds like the whole deal was a big con/scam... I hope you spread the word about it to everyone you know!

It is only a one weekend a year thing at Waterbury, so no real harm done, we won't be going again. Ever.

Ethan was very happy to see a big, real Thomas though, he had 'smoke' (steam really) and a driver and he had a working whistle!

So it was crappy but for Ethan it was pretty amazing?

kids rule! :D

I didn't recognize your wife but then the neckline was a little high!!

We took our boy to Thomas a while back and while it is like any other event that tries to separates fools from their money it is pretty easy to avoid most of it and we had a really good time.

Damn thats what I thought! You were ripped. If you manage to get near England take the kids on the old steam railway in the lake district. I think it costs £3 and is a 45 minute picturesque trip. Our kids love it.

and who would have though ringo star would have contributed to TWO phenomenons on both sides of the atlantic.

amazing.
