'Daylight'

I was just thinking after my girlfriend asked THAT question, that I didn't really know the rule anymore.....is it down to a part of the body that can actually score...

ie. if your arm is offside, then you are not offside....if your leg is, you are? Or have I made that up? Confused

This is from the fa rule book

A player is not in an offside position if:
• he is in his own half of the field of play or
• he is level with the second-last opponent or
• he is level with the last two opponents

No mention of daylight or which part of the body, clear as mud really. I do know a ref in the local leagues and have asked him this question before and as far as he's concerned it's the position of the feet.

I heard you can't be offside from a goal kick.......I'm still not sure on that one, but apparently that's why Doyle always stands in an offside looking position for all their goal kicks. I seem to remember Baines questioning the Lino about it....? Seem's he wasn't sure either!

That can't be the definite list? No mention of a not being offside if he/she receives the ball directly from a goal kick, corner kick, or throw-in
