What like a party political broadcast does? Or packs about the national parties policies during election etc?

Waste of time them "investigating" if you ask me.

Everton and Tesco are not political parties. Their dvd about the proposed stadium/retail development was issued in the affected council wards in the days leading up to the local election. The election, according to Knowsley councillor Mal Sharp in its aftermath, was fought on one issue - the stadium/retail proposal. The dvd was, therefore, likely to effect the outcome. Which is why the Special Branch are looking into this.

Quite right too. There's more than a poxy stadium at stake here.

The other councils could've done the same thing, and probably did (I'll have to ask me dad about it). But the other councils/electorals etc could've/did bang up their own proposals for/against the tesco's deal or other policies in marketting their parties to sway votes - that's what parties do whether or not 3rd parties were involved.

All Tesco's have to do is deny all knowledge that it was linked with swaying votes being that they are planning on building in Kirkby and let the people their know what they're planning to do. If the DVD came out 8 months ago, would it still get investigated? Its a coincidence that's not politically motavated is all they'll say.

Tesco's excuse won't come into it. Coincidence wont come into it. It either fell within the period of electioneering when this type of activity is unlawful or it didn't.

I'm sorry, but when you are grasping for loopholes like this, that is a sorry state to be in.

Loophole? That's the law. If the investigation turns nothing up, so be it. But even Tesco have to go through that process. It's called the British legal system. Terry Leahy and his company, the last time I checked, were not exempt from it.
