i'm on the fence about the death penalty, but when i hear about stories like this i can't think of anything more appropriate

Each time you think you have seen the depths of evil, another one comes along to prove you wrong.
Even if he gets the death penalty, he will have possibly 15yrs or more in a cushy prison cell. Meanwhile his son has to try to live with what has been done to him by someone who should protect him. His life will never ever be an easy one. His trust in people will never be restored.

Don't think the death penalty's applicable in California for anything other than homicide.

The article says the father's wheelchair bound aswell so won't be placed into any sort of general population in prison - being found having hacked away at his leg with an axe makes it pretty clear he'll be off to a padded room somewhere for a long time.

Shame to see that child welfare services are as inept in the US as they are in the UK.
