2022/23 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

I think we will sign a forward, keep DCL and Tom Cannon.
That will give Cannon plenty of time on the pitch for a first season.
DCL will not have to start every game so hopefully his injury situation will improve.

But, we do need to sign one striker that can play to a level that does not weaken the team if DCL is not playing.

I've got a few PNE fans weirdly enough and they thought Cannon was one of the better players they've seen for a while. They're desperate for him back next season

The thing that impressed them most - other than the goals obviously - was his work rate and attitude. Never stops pressing and harrying defenders. Sounds very much a Dyche type.

They also thought Gordon was complete dog when he was there a couple of years back by the way. Full of pace and skill but no end product and his attitude completely stunk

Well if their opinion of Gordon is anything to go by you have very wise friends and I like the sound of Cannon!

I'd be staggered if it didn't happen. But then, I was pulling my hair our last summer, never mind January.

Last summer I think Thelwell (and most naive blues, to be fair. Most rated the summer window highly) figured defence and midfield was a priority. They were wrong. There's no illusion anymore.

It's DCL/his partners who are sharing the videos. Pretty common for players to be "look im working even when off" on their social.
Last summer many thought it'd be ok up front because DCL was training again and Lampard was happy even though Richarlison hadn;t been replaced. Then DCL picked up that injury and the whole club - manager, team and fans - realised the implications when the club failed to sign a replacement in the final week of the window.

IMO Dyche will keep faith with DCL too. He'll add another forward, but even that'll be a gamble.

There's no one willing to make the big decision at Everton to get shut of Calvert-Lewin or to marginalise him to the point of buying two forwards so where if he does get fit then that's a bonus because we'll have 3 to call on.

The Calvert-Lewin situation is a microcosm of all that's bad about Everton right now: a club that cant make tough decisions.

If you were any thicker I'd start to pity you.

Right now I just point and laugh.

Laugh at what - me poiinting out that a player with a terrible injury history getting sold for £15M is a good a example as to why we should be selling DCL?

Run along, sonny Jim.

If the club don't realize this we're in big trouble. If DCL stays fit, it'll be a good problem to have, but we really need two strikers this summer. We can't really sell DCL anyway b/c who would want him, so let's get in two guys and whatever we get out of DCL would be a bonus

With the injury history of DCL and the lack of money to spend on transfers, for better or worse, Cannon could be the key to survival. They likely need to find goals at a low cost and Cannon may be the best chance.

Because it's exactly that, history.

His last massive injury was 5 years ago for Liverpool. Since then he's missed 23 games in small bursts. Dom has missed the bulk of 2 whole years now (more than Ings in 5) with nothing before that. How's it the same thing?

Good to see him working hard to get fit. Really hope he can use this summer to get healthy for his sake and ours. I'm not very hopeful, mind. We definitely need a striker to come in who is good enough to start and lead the line on their own, and if Dom does recover then we will actually have options for the first time in like 2 years.

I think we'd get cash for DCL. There's always a taker for forwards. Many teams above midtable will take a chance on another forward if they think they can do a job for them for a few games in a season. And Calvert Lewin did play a third of our games this season, so that would fit the bill.

That isn't a good proportion of games for a club that's fighting off relegation though.

We'll need two forwards, end of, though I'm doubtful we'll get two.

Even one on a free/loan is helpful. But it has to be two.

I'm discounting Dom as a viable option, surely that much is clear now.
