ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

You'll love this one mate. That lot complaining their season has been wrecked by injuries.

"The Reds have taken one hit after another this season...85.2 percent [of the squad] have missed at least one game. A figure that is hardly conducive to consistent performances across the course of the campaign. Eleven players have hit double-figures for games missed, while 14 have been absent due to different injuries during one or more juncture of the season...With 12 games remaining, let’s hope the tide starts to turn for Klopp’s men."

In fairness they had about 4 seasons of not missing any key first team players before Van Dijk injured himself tackling Pickford so this season when they’ve had one major injury to Diaz and a few niggles probably feels awful for them. So unfair.

Van Basten and Gullit calling out Van Dijk for the overrated show pony he’s always been. The media in this country are so enamoured with him it’s ridiculous meanwhile his own international fans can see right through him. Even Van Gaal told him to pipe down.

The PL will still probably find a way to get him, Allison Thiago and Salah in the team of the season.

Even this season barring Diaz there's been no injury crisis. They say that 82% of players missed one match...yes, but that stretches well down into the 27 man squad.

It's basically a bit of statistical BS to spare their blushes about falling out of the elite.

I think Haaland will play against them.

Actually, though, it might be better for us if City lose this game. If Arsenal have polished off the title by the time City face us (and City get past Bayern to reach the SFs, meaning they'll play us before the second leg of that) they should be in damage limitation mode resting up key players and not being 100% competitive.

I see Gerrard rose from his sickbed to play for Kenny on Saturday in their latest charity game for non match attenders. Interested to see his take on his recovery....

From Talk Sport website

After the game it was revealed Gerrard very nearly didn’t play, having struggled with a chest infection in the week leading up to the game.

But he was able to get his moment at Anfield and against the Celtic fans, and play 90 minutes, after a special delivery from his former club.

“Yeah, listen, they sent me a bag of medicine a couple of days ago and that straightened me out,” Gerrard added.

“I got through it, that’s the main thing. I was there. I didn’t play too well, but we got the win.”

I wonder if their busy in-house Pharmacist got generous 'foreigner' rates for his RS matchday reviver Irn-Bru....unlike their poor matchday workers on flat rate nearly furloughed buttons

Kloppzade at it again..

It’s a striking and obvious contrast isn’t it ?

Amazing how they cyclically have seasons with loads of injuries and then literally none the rest of the time.

If only there was an explanation….

There's a story on the BBC homepage about the bad behaviour of British tourists in Amsterdam.

It includes an interesting quote from the mayor...
"They don't wear a coat as they slalom through the red light district… they sing 'You'll never walk alone'. They are dressed as rabbits or priests and sometimes they are not dressed at all. I'd love to invite him to witness it,"

I’m reading a biography of Brian Clough that recalls how John Aldridge ruffled Brian Laws’s hair after he scored an own goal in the ‘89 FA Cup semi final replay. Classy.
Stuart Pearce wrote about it in more detail in his book, apparently the original hair ruffling incident happened few weeks before the Hillsborough tragedy when laws made a mistake in a league game leading to Lipoool scoring, in the replay to the semi at old Trafford Aldo went out of his way to find Laws and apologise, saying the last few weeks had put everything into perspective and he regretted doing it etc, Laws accepted the apology and that was the end of the matter.

Until an hour later when Laws scored an OG and good old Aldo done the exact same again. Lovely fella.
