He couldn't carry Liverpool to a title, and he's not good enough to carry Uruguay to a title.

He has to go through Colombia, the Brazil or Chile, then probably Germany or France - just to reach the final.

Not happening.
 
Diego Lugano has defended his teammate:

Surely not though. They are a team of carthorses who happen to have one good striker and one world class. Any decent side will surely cut the supply line to those two, and not stupidly have a man sent off after 70 minutes. Their midfielders are a bunch of cloggers and their defenders are yard dogs, all they do is kick people and don't even attempt to play football
