Lest we forget.........:)

We have been here before.......or rather they have been here before.

A decade or so ago they employed the then flavour of the month as new manager and he was going to lead them back to the promised land.

And this manager had achieved a lot more than Klopp.

And how did it end?

It was May 19, 2004, and Rafael Benítez’s Valencia had just completed a famous doblete by beating Marseille in the final of the UEFA Cup, adding to the La Liga trophy they had secured two weeks earlier. The game in itself was unspectacular, Valencia running out fairly comfortable 2-0 winners after a characteristic moment of madness from Fabien Barthez had reduced the French side to ten men with more than 45 minutes to play.

Once Valencia had scored the resulting penalty, they never looked like surrendering their lead, and leading striker Mista put the game beyond doubt with a glorious outside-of-the-foot finish just before the hour mark. However, the scale of Valencia’s achievement in completing the double should not be underestimated – that night was a fitting conclusion to the most fruitful period in the club’s recent history, and the last triumph of one of the great European teams of the last decade.

The problem with flavour of the month is that they all taste the same.

;)

im just hoping the Klopp that had Dortmund bottom of the league at xmas is the one that turns up to analfield and not the klopp who won 2 leagues and got the and ECL final.

To be honest if he hadn't had that last awful season at Dortmund I would be thinking uh oh they have got themselves a managerial master, however in that last year with the 2nd best squad in Germany he was 20th in the league after half a season so I am hopeful he will be yet another false dawn for them. Hopeful!

People really need to get a grip of this situation ...
Can't recall a deep sense of foreboding on this scale when the FSW joined their ranks - a man who had won two La Liga's and the UEFA cup with Valencia.
Given that they fluked the Champions League with him he might not be the best example to use to soothe the nerves.

What Jurgen Klopp can do with the players he inherits at Liverpool
Can Liverpool's new manager replicate his success with Borussia Dortmund with a few tactical tweaks? Or is this season a write-off?

Interesting article on Klopp's favoured tactic.....edit

"The gegenpress, a German-Anglo word which means literally "counter-press" is an all-action, high tempo, exhausting take on Barcelona's high pressure game where the ball is won as high up the pitch as possible immediately after losing possession. Klopp once told FourFourTwo: “Gegenpressing is the best playmaker there is. The best moment to win the ball is immediately after your team just lost it. The opponent is still looking for orientation where to pass the ball.
”Brendan Rodgers phased out this high press when he lost Luis Suarez, who is probably the best striker in the world for relentlessly closing down opponents, and abandoned it altogether when Raheem Sterling left for Manchester City, where his direct style of play suits the "defend from the front" mentality Manuel Pellegrini employs....The system only works if every single player presses at the same time, and creates a kind of swarm effect which overpowers defenders and midfielders and forces them to make errors.......
Klopp is being brought in because FSG think the squad Liverpool has is good enough to be in closer contention for the title, and because Brendan Rodgers's slow, sideways passing approach was not making best use of the assets available.
Klopp can definitely change the way Liverpool play for the better, but whether the Anfield faithful will have enough patience to wait to see the benefits is something we'll find out at the end of the season.
Brendan Rodgers tried to work his way through several transitionary periods of his own making and could never quite work it out. Klopp finds himself in the middle of someone else's mess, in a league where his nearest rivals have already overtaken and outspent.
Klopp will bring some much needed optimism and enthusiasm to Anfield. Whether he can bring the exciting style of play he pioneered at Borussia Dortmund is another matter altogether. If he can do it this season it will be an amazing achievement.

I can see Coutinho and Sturridge spitting their dummies out the pram if this is required of them when the weather turns parky and pitches boggy.

He did win a few things! Then again it was with money they didn't have artificially inflating their squad above everyone else's unfairly. Fortunately they were punished for it....oh wait hang on they just got another load of money instead from an undervalued buy out, Leary they've learnt their lesson and are being prudent with it....

The cult have gone into cult overdrive, thing is he's a good manager but the German league is, lets be frank , pretty rubbish and he could easily be even worse than that chunky monkey. Let's not forget he nearly took them down and King Rafael looks like he won't even win the Spanish league with Real Madrid.

IF the world's greatest manager of all time can't win the domestic title with all that talent what hope has a two season wonder like Klopp got with Sakho, Lovren, Ings, Milner and Henderson.

Remember last season when some of our fans were having a go at the 'Catalan Clown' and pointing to Sunderland's managerial appointment as an example of great ambition?

Dick Advocaat had a better pedigree that the spectacle wearing German weirdo.

He's going to fail. Just put a monkey on them getting relegated.

I'm curious to see what he will do, however I'm sure of one thing: it's going to require a massive clearout and recruitment to get the players he needs to play his style of football. Unless he totally changes his tactics I don't see them doing a whole lot this season.
