ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

The problem with this statement is that it doesn't isolate the core problem with both sets of supporters and actually encourages the outlook that contributes. The most disgraceful part of this line is "This is an unrivalled fixture in the Premier League calendar and we thank all fans for their continued support in this important area of the game.” For the utter mutants who support those two clubs that is an open invitation to continue the sort of appalling behaviour we have seen.

The behaviour in recent years from both sets of fans is as a result of entitlement. It is out of a misguided belief that they are inherently bigger, better and more important than others and that their match is more important to such behaviour can be excused. This statement does nothing to address that and in fact encourages that myth. They are already backtracking from the inevitable appalling behaviour we will see on Monday with the "yea but it's a unique rivalry".

They both need to be told clearly that their match is no different, no more important, special or anything else than any other match. They have no more right to sing about dead people. Only when both clubs accept this truth will we see improvements.

Thanks Catcher but, let's face it, Liverpool are the real perpetrators here. Feel sorry for the United fans tbh

A joint statement, definitely directed at Liverpool fans, the mutants

It always have to be said. Yes there is a rivallry there between the two clubs/cities but overall it is the kopites who have to make it more than what it is. For 26 years they have not been in United's league, and yet still they act like they are. It is the same as all the other faux rivallries they have, chelsea, man city to name a couple. The fans who create these new rivalries then make sure they go out their way to make it one, through insults, lies and social media campaigns are the really scummy ones. Chelsea don't give a damn about liverpool in any sense, yet there is the kopites throwing things about such as the memorial incident.

both fans play up to the rivalry in the game when it comes to united liverpool, but its the kopites who carry their false sense of entitlement that they should even be seen as anything more than a club who were successful once and do whatever they can to stay relevant in opposing fans eyes.

It's the Kopites fault, 100%. No respect for the dead, and then they have the gall to make up stories about other fans to try and make it out that it's a problem coming from both sides. Disgraceful imo

Case of the blue tinted specs here I think Pal or a serious case of "wumming" for any lurking RS *spits*. Both sets of fans usually disgrace themselves whether it's songs about Munich or Hillsborough/Heysel. In all cases it seems to be the majority of the home support but the majority of the away (such is the nature of going to away matches)

It doesn't take much to sort it out though. The derby games were getting a bit venomous a few years ago but have settled down. It'll never be "the friendly derby" from my youth (if it ever truly was!) but it's going in the right direction.
