Arteta2391

Player Valuation: £30m
at what age was you aware that you had been chosen to be an evertonian artetta ? cant be many in guatemala that follow the blues ?

Good question (y)

I currently live in New York and came here from Guatemala when I was 8. I got into soccer about 3 years ago and I thought the premier league would be an excellent league to follow. At first I didn't know much about soccer and declared myself a Chelsea fan. I thought they were a well known club and had a variety of good players. I never followed Chelsea though but I remember 3 years ago watching an Everton game on TV. It was Everton vs Bolton. I just remember being lured the football being played by the Everton squad it was pure magic. Then I also remember watching Arteta on the wing taking 3 players on and beating all of them with ease. Then he scored that incredible goal vs Bolton. I was called to be a blue and I get this question asked in my school and by other football fanatics. This is my second season following Everton intensely.

My life dream is to visit Goodison Park one day and see all my heroes in action.

*edit* why is this the first post of this topic? this is the most recent reply it should be the last

Ive been watching alot of CONCACRAP (i mean CONCACAF) qualifying matches because it is my corresponding region. My native country, Guatemala recently lost vs the US 1-0 :( I really do hope we make it to the WC in 2010

anyway

Today I was watching a rerun of Ecuador vs Colombia and Segundo Castillo was playing. I watched barely 30 minutes of the second half and he has superb passing skills. Whether it be passing it to space or a fancy long pass his done it in the game. Is this a hint of things to come? (y)

Good stuff there on Castillo.

And sorry bout that 1-0 home beating you took. :P

I still think you'll progress out of the group along with us.

It was a violent game, we just lack the athleticism and solid defense that the U.S has. Plus most of the US players in European leagues and other solid leagues around the world. Our main scorer, Carlos Ruiz plays for Toronto FC and Gustavo Cabrera plays for a danish team. We also have Contreras playing in Arsenal (Argentinian one haha) Thats 3 players out of our whole squad. The rest player in the Guatemalan Premier Division. The equivalent of league 1 football in England imo.

Castillo was mostly playing in the CM position but is definitely good on going forward.

View of Castillo from a Red Star fan:

In my opinion he was one of the best players if not the best player for Red Star Belgrade in the last seasons. He is a very consistent player who always gives 100%, he has scored many goals and could always be relied on.

He is very strong and firm player, good fitness and strong in 50-50s and headers. He has always been in the starting line up and has always given everything possible while playing at Red Star, he is more of a defensive midfielder but knows how to set up and take the ball forward, and has put in some impressive goals.

He is always in the action and fights for the ball no matter what, as for the weakness while playing here i don’t think he had any, i think in England he will have a better opportunity to prove himself, and we may see some weakness in his game (maybe speed), however in my opinion he is a excellent player and hopefully finds his spot in Everton. In my opinion Red Star should have not let him go and we are missing him right now.

Segundo Castillo is a pretty interesting player, I've met him several times, I've sat down to have a beer with him, he's a very cool cat.

Anyway, to his footballing abilities: he is a very strong defensive midfielder that has good speed, good tackling ability and has a good center of gravity making it tougher to knock him down. Interestingly enough, some of his best spots with Red Star have been on offense where he's proven to be a multifaceted attacker as well, he's scored off headers, long shots, and tap-ins....he's a good passer and has good vision of the field.

Of his weaknesses, I'd say that he can disappear sometimes on the pitch, but will later reappear, and his height MIGHT be a weakness for the English style of play but then again, many shorter players aren't necessarily at a disadvantage.

Overall I think he is a strong addition to the Everton squad because he's a midfielder that wears many hats- he doesn't necessarily only defend, or only attack. If any other Ecua would like to add to this, please do.
