Hello.
Not been reading the site very long, but registered today so I could view posts, which have been helping me pass the time lately. Much obliged. Love the banter here.
I'm a London blue, don't get to games much but Everton are on my mind every day and have been since I was about 8. I started supporting Everton just after our 80's glory period, and chose Everton (or was chosen by Everton) because I just fell in love with the history of the club when reading a panini sticker book. Remember being taken in immediately by our club badge, and used to draw it all the time.
I had high hopes for Everton and my first real memory is of Tony Cottee scoring a hat-trick on his debut against Newcastle. I've watched the decline of the club ever since, but at least we won the FA Cup in 1995. A few weeks before we did so, my dad died, and I felt it was a sign from above that we had won it against all odds.
I was excited by the appointment of a real winner in Walter Smith, but within 6 months he'd had Duncan Ferguson sold behind his back and had to sell off all the new signings like Dacourt and Materazzi. After that, he managed to improve the squad on paper while having absolutely no money. The fans turned against him though and we appointed one of the best young managers in David Moyes.
Reading between the lines, Moyes fell out with Rooney, and I have never really got over that. Such a shame an Evertonian, English, and so talented stayed with us for so short a period.
I live in hope that Moyes can get us in the top 5 or 6 within the first 10 games of next season. We were so, so, average this season, yet still finished 7th. So hopefully we can improve on that and get a good start next season!
