England goes 'Smoke Free'

Latch

Player Valuation: £15m
July 1st see's England joins the rest of the UK in banning smoking in public places.
Wales, Scotland and N. Ireland ( i think the Republic as well ? ) have already been smoke free for a while now.
Although i do smoke i completly agree with this law, it's a [Poor language removed] disgusting habit and i've tried to give up many times with varying degrees of success, i'm in the process of trying again.
As far as pubs are concerned things will never be the same for smokers, no more being able to have a fag with your pint, ( at least indoors ) the pubs in my town like every other establishment in this country have huriedly (sp) built/made room, outside for smokers to be able to sit down and indulge their cravings, usually a plastic table, one chair and a bucket of sand, not so bad in the summer but when winter comes i cant see these smokers going out for a pint when they know they will have to go outside in the rain/sleet, it will be interseting to see how the pubs cope with their loss of trade.
Like i said i agree with this new law, it's not fair on non-smokers, be they regulars or staff, it should have happened years ago, just think about the people who have already suffered bad health as a result of passive-smoking.
This law applies to all public places, Restaurants (sp) work-places, cafes, cinema, library, any confined public place.
To me the right of non-smokers to breathe clean air comes before a smokers right to light-up.

Absolutely spot on Latch, it still amazes me, with al the available evidence that you still see kids with fags in the street, astonishing if we can't even teach them a basic thing like that.

I gave up, from 40 a day to nil, smoked pipes, cigars and other material, it is vile and until I met Chico on Saturday had not touched one in years, [Poor language removed]

Seriously how many on here are reformed former smokers and how many actual smoke now!

I quit 5 years ago.

When my wife comes back from some of the Wirral pubs when she plays Darts, her clothes stink of smoke, its vile.

I think its hilarious that people are complaining about human rights violation, what about the non-smokers who don't want to have their environment polluted!

some of you may or may not know that I do have a minor lung condition and some of my night outs have been absolutley wrecked by smokers, sometimes I can handle it but sometimes I can't.

Pissed me off no end to think that my night out was spoiled because people want to breath smoke into their lungs and then spit it out again.

Why anybody smokes is beyond me, actually why anybody "starts" to smoke is beyond me, I know why they continue to do so, because of the chemical addition they have.

I still smoke (its on my to do list to quit).

I thought id give up when the ban came in over here we were the first in Europe back in 2001, than i discovered that smokeing outside a club was a great place to chat up girls, its like speed dating youve five minutes to get in there.

My last five girlfriends i met outside a pub/club having a cigerette.

The only downside of a ban is that youl suddenly realise people fart an awfull lot in pubs, lets just say it becomes more evident!

   ,everything you said is true Neiler, for a single bloke the opportunities are endless, i've noticed a lot of that going on.
Farting as well as BO are more noticable, but for me the worse is effing perfume, the cheaper it is the more i sneeze, i must have spilt litres of ale down my front since Wales went smoke-free in April.

smokers should be given a very warm room with no windows to smoke in, a room that is just like their lungs.

I quit around 20 years ago (from 40 a day, like monty). Your new laws on July 1 sound like the ones we've had here for a few years. I wasn't really all that bothered by ambient smoke, but now that it's been eliminated in Toronto, it really bugs me when I go somewhere like Montreal where everybody smokes everywhere, all the time.

We've now started eliminating the smokers' rooms as well, in most places you have to go outside for a smoke - and people do, even when it's 25 degrees below zero.

Apparently nicotine is more addictive than Heroin so that doesn't surprise me one bit CT.

im a smoker who wants to stop. im also a taxi driver (private hire). i agree with the bans (dunno how i'll handle pubs).

smoking will be banned in my cab, this includes me (at all times).this means if i am off work on holiday, with no taxi signs on my car, no radio on, i still cant smoke in my car.

seems strange i pay for my car tax it, service it, mot it, insure it (including for personal use) and get told i cant smoke in it
i never smoke when i have a customer in the car, and when i do smoke the windows are always open

if they want to pay for my car, tax it, service it, mot it, insure it, then i understand i cant smoke in it until then....

Its virtually unpolicable in cars and vans though. People arent suppodes to use mobile phones whilst driving and.....
