England's route to the final

Player Valuation: £50m
That was tough luck not winning the group as Ghana and then Uruguay or (super) South Korea would have been the route to the semi's.

Now we have Germany and then Mexico or Argentina.

The good news is now we will miss Brazil until the final should they win their group.

Thoughts on the draw now?

Have England wrecked their best chance since '90 to have a storming WC?

This group of players seem to need the motivation.

Ghana might have been one almighty banana skin. There can not be much more motivation than Germany, with possible Argentina in the quarter finals.

There's no way. You guys should have fun being able to watch one last game. England has been horrible and they were lucky to get through. I don't mean to be an ass I'm just saying realistically there is about a 5% chance England beats Germany.

Well talking of luck, good job then your 92nd minute winner was planned all along... ;)

I think people who have watched World Cups over the years understand that sometimes teams start slowly in the group stages. It's all about the knockout stage now.

So is it Germany, Argentina, Spain, Brazil....World Cup Winners......theoretically...?

That happens - Best World Cup ever, and all is forgiven to John Terry for being a tool. I already half like him again after than attempted tackle with this face

I don't have a World Cup guide for the first time ever, so I can't stay up all night working out every separate scenario.

That looks like one hell of a tough run.

Just like Everton to the cup final (Villa, Liverpool, Man U, Chelsea) . It can be done!

In short, there can be no positives from England finishing second.

Potentially, Germany, Argentina & Spain as a path to the final is not good at all and it's massively unlikely that England will do it.

But carry on with the soundbytes fellas x

I'm glad England didn't win more convincingly yesterday, the press would have probably claimed that the trophy was ours to lose etc...

I think we are definitely in with a shout of beating Germany now though. Just need the Rooney to get fit for Sunday

Yeah but, being optimistic here, I'd feel much happier if we lost to spain after having knocked out the germans and the argies then I would if we beat ghana and south korea before losing to Brazil. Cos 1) It's nice to knock out teams we hate and 2) it's both more satisfying to win against higher ranked teams and less embarassing to lose.

We lose to Germany it's well 'the germans are a tough side' but we lose to Ghana and theres riots.

Much rather we'd finished first obviously but, as I believe Vera Lynn put it, I'll keep on smiling through, like I always do till the blue skies chase the dark clouds far away.

Yes but surely that's like some sort of feel good mental protection from the painful exit out of the competition that you're clearly anticipating.

I hate to say it but history teaches us that the last thing England want to draw in the World Cup is a decent team, as decent teams generally put them out.

I fancy England to hammer 40 colours of [Poor language removed] out of Germany. Then go on to play Argentina and win with a fantastic counter-attacking display.

Then who knows?
