Euro2020 Knock Out Rounds

He's not going to resign he'll ride that gravy train to its terminal destination.

Didn't realise first time around that he celebrated afterwards. Someone needs to explain what the goal is and how to score one.
If I were him - and he'd been offered a job elsehwere in club football - I'd take it. He'll be able to take up the England job again after the 2022 WC when this lot will get their arses handed to them in Qatar.

He can then return as Sir Gareth to come to the nations rescue. That'd be the smart move, because there'll be hell to pay for this loss once the dust settles.

Honestly, because he knows that if he doesn't do that the usual people will just dismiss it as being "political" like that's a bad thing.

It's like when talking football with a RS you always have to give them a sloppy bit of praise otherwise they start to get angry and dismissive of everything.
If he does what he's doing he is an irrelvancy. He needs to back a horse.

It's irrelevant anyway. He will just get shot down for bringing politics into it.

It's only a hot topic for the media/government etc when it has to be. They don't actually care about it unless it makes the nation look bad.

Bit dramatic

Lucrative for him and strategic too.

Southgate wont be loved in this job anymore. Not once the dust settles and the first of a few defeats on the way to Qatar happen.
Sure same was said after 2018, we lost to Spain in the Nation’s League, robbed Croatia in the same tournament and lost to the Czechs in qualifying for this as well as a few friendlies but bounced back to where we got to last night. He’ll be alright bar an unlikely collapse in the next few qualifiers before the year’s out

Hmm, in terms of squad, England are definitely up there.

Anything less than a semi-final appearance this time around would have been a massive disappointment.
I don't think they are one of the 4 best in Europe, so a semi final would be a really good result. Getting to the final, and only losing on penalties is a great result.

I just find it quite unfair all the criticism he is receiving for being one kick away from winning the whole thing

Predicting defeats already before these games have already been played, he could go and win them all as well.

Tbf in extra-time England were the better side. I don’t think you can just take your best player off in a Euros final.

Grealish definitely should have been on sooner
He certainly was our best player in the 1st half but did nothing after that. No one is bigger than the team at that precise moment

I mean, based on results over the last three years, they are, but look at the squad that got picked for the tournament (and players that were left at home)...

That squad is better than Germany's, Spain's and tbh I'd argue Italy's in terms of depth of talent.

Portugal and France and Belgium probably have superior squads.

But given the semis and final were at home, and they played their group games at home etc, anything less than an SF would have been poor.

Not to say we haven't done very well to get to the final, it's a great achievement, but the talent is definitely there.

Well yeah but you want Kane on as much as possible.

He was dropping deep in the first half but had players running off him and behind. That didn't happen in the second half but England also failed to get on the ball.

Verratti and Jorginho took control. England don't really have any deep-lying midfielders who can do that.

In FIFA's WORLD rankings England are 4th mate, the three teams ahead of them are Brazil (3rd) France (2nd) Belgium (1st)
