Transfer Rumour Evan Ferguson

Oh yeah, for sure let’s sign the next Haaland or Lewandoski aged 18. They’ll be desperate to come to us. I don’t know why more clubs don’t do that.
Brighton do , among many other clubs.
I also thought that this was the model we all aspired to , buying low , selling high.
This would be the opposite of that strategy.
Paying big money for a player with question marks around him is a high risk and limits your ability to strengthen other areas,
Personally I don’t think this player is worth the risk.
( also worth remembering that we did have the chance of signing a young Haaland.)

So of his 6 goals last season, 3 of them came in one game. And before he got injured, he went 15 games without scoring.

And that’s with good, fast wingers and an actual number 10 supporting him? Can’t wait to see how he does with doucoure behind him and our slugs on the wings.
Shearer scored 20 in 120 at Southampton so would have had similar goal less runs. The point your missing is that we are unable to buy at the top of the market firstly because of money but also because of attractiveness of our club. Even when we had money we paid way over the odds on bang average players. This is the type we need to make.

I’m not missing any point. I completely appreciate we need to buy young prospects for the future. (But also, if you read a lot of the comments those advocating for him are making, he is already top class, unplayable etc - he isn’t, which is why we are linked to him)

However, we can’t loan him, meaning we will have to shell what, £40m minimum on him? We are cash strapped and there is clearly still psr concerns flying around.

We also need a goal scorer for now, not for one in another 100 games time. And if we shell every penny we have on him, then how do we resolve any of the other positions we are desperate for and how do get the goals we actually need?

The summer will likely be a different ball game finances wise, but right now, we need players coming in that are going to do the business for us and ensure we stay up.

Risks on younger very highly touted players are rarely 'bad' you will almost always find the ones that don't work out will have another side willing to take a risk on them again. Yea you'll lose money but not the same level you'd lose on a big money bust whose 26/27 who you then struggle to get anything for if they bomb out.

Buy Ferguson for 35-40m and in two years he's not worked out, at 22yo you'll still find another Fulham, West Ham, or promoted side willing to spend 20-25m on the hope they are the ones who can get his potential out. Or in other words you're risking the same type of money loss you can get by just signing a Maupay type these days.

Worth the risk.
My worry is we tend to get them at the wrong time. See Moise Kean.

Maybe Moyes is the man to do it. He got a last hurrah out of Lingard.

In truth, all transfers are risks.

We paid 40m for beto and Maupay combined, 52m if you throw in Chermiti. We've gotten 5 goals out them in 2 seasons.

Not sure who you think we are getting mate for a fraction of say 40m if we had it available whose coming in scoring for us off the bat.

I reckon this lad might be a good fit and Moyes could be a good manager for him possibly. I wouldn't be against it. We 100% need a striker in. And I would rather be going for a young talent than some has-been stop gap.
We have no idea of his personality, he could be a complete eejit who won't take advice and just takes the money.

Quite an exciting signing this if we pull it off

A forward thinking one that looks to the long term future

I thought many wanted us to move on from short termism?
Buying a kid with a few good games and an alleged issue for a high fee is not where we should be at. Either the likes of Branthwaite and Stones, where we pay a small fee and hope to develop the player, or a fee similar to the £17 million we paid for O'Brien where the player has proven himself to be decent but may have an upside. Paying £40 million or more for players should not be where we're at unless we're buying an established player or selling a player to the club we're buying from for a lot more than that.
