Goals from Leon Osman and Victor Anichebe gave Everton all 3 points in their first Premiership game of the season.
Osman opened the scoring with a looping header on 26 minutes and Anichebe doubled Evertons advantage with 15 minutes of the match remaining to give what should have been a pressure free end to the game. But in typical Everton fashion, fans had to endure some anxious moments after substitute Sibierski gave Wigan a lifeline with 10 minutes remaining after turning in Paul Scharners cross from close range but Everton kept their 2-1 lead to record a good opening day win.
