This game is giving me Boxing Day 2022 vibes.

Lampard was hanging on at the club and should really have been sacked by this point. Similar story with Dyche.

Shockingly, despite knowing how lampard's reign ended and how poor we were, I'm watching those highlights and seeing us play some attacking football and creating chances (still missing most of them, though).

Our club is a shell of its former self and the freidkins have one hell of a job to stop us disappearing into the abyss.

Like Saturday I won't be tuning in, but if I was to pick a side..

Pickford

Patterson - Keane - Branthwaite - Young

Gana
------- Mangala

Lindstrom
---- Ndiaye ------- McNeil

DCL

🤷‍♂️

We were disastrous on Saturday.

The biggest worry for us this season is that the players aren't that bad. They can't really be accused of not trying, as we have done with players in the past, and it's a decent group on paper. Our issue is entirely the manager. We just find ways of conceding and the organisation/structure is not there. On Saturday the idiot in the dugout decided to tell us to play out from the back against one of the best pressing sides in the league. If we sack him and get a replacement in now, most would expect us to survive with relative ease. If he remains in charge, we will probably go down.

We somehow find a way of scoring a lot of goals, which are often down to individual quality, although we do sometimes put some good passages of play together to be fair to O'Neil. That's where the credit stops.

I'd go for our XI to be this.

Sa
Doherty, Bueno, Dawson, Toti, Ait-Nouri
J. Gomes, Lemina
Guedes, Larsen, Cunha

Can be a back three as above. Also, Ait-Nouri pushes up to left-midfield, Toti to left-back to make it a 4-4-1-1. Could be either setup and can switch mid-game.

Sa could be dropped, but he's already acknowledged that Sam Johnstone isn't as good from crosses, so would be surprised if he came in against you.

He decided to leave Dawson and Bueno out on Saturday and it was a massive mistake, even if Dawson was awful when he did come on. But he won't do that again.

Semedo picked up his fifth booking on Saturday so is suspended, which is a big blow, as Doherty is nowhere near his level now.

Anyway, we have the same confidence in our team as you appear to in yours. It's the same with the manager.

I expect you to win because we will find a way to concede, and it will probably be from a set-piece, but in truth any result is possible.

I find it baffling the way that only Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs & Brentford have scored more goals than Wolves this season yet you still find yourself 18th on only 9 points. That is absolutely nuts.

Obviously you've conceded the most goals in the league by some way which I imagine is petrifying, but at least you have the ability to score past teams unlike ourselves.

Wolves have scored as many goals in the last 4 games as Everton have all season in the Premier League. If O'Neil can somehow tighten up at the back you'll stay up with ease.

An early goal in both halves for Wolves on Wednesday is more than enough to beat us and go above us. The whole ground will turn like that.

As a tactical match up this is about as difficult as it gets. We will play a lone striker against 3 CB’s. Their wing backs will meet our aging and slow FB’s and their three man frontline potentially overloads our CB’s unless there is a DM in front, shielding the back four (note - not Gana who wanders all over the pitch even if to good effect).
Unless N’Diaye or whoever starts as RM produces an individual moment of brilliance Wednesday I cannot see us scoring. So really all depends on which Everton defence shows up….
I’d like:
Pickford
Patterson - O’Brien - Branthwaite - Young
McNeil - Gana - Mangala - N’Diaye
Lindstrom
Beto

We will sadly get:
Pickford
Coleman - Tarkowski - Keane - Mykolenko
Harrison - Gana - Doucoure - N’Diaye
McNeil
