Everton January 2022 Transfer Thread

….well, I’m not so sure that is the case, especially if the rumours are true regarding the LB links.

Time will tell.
People are putting two and two together regarding the location of the player and Uzmanov. I dont see it.

Can you imagine any situation where Benitez gats a player dumped on him by some clueless billionaire?

Sensible post...
Get a young player and introduce him gradually during the second half of the season .
He can rotate with Seamus and if he is good enough he will come up to speed quickly.

When you look at the Scottish team there are some good players in there, quite a few Premiership players, Patterson has not looked out of place in that company
Agree 100% - exactly how we should be doing it

Very reliable journos we’re saying a bid of £8-9 million had been rejected, if he was as average as you are saying, you’d think they’d bite our hands off.
And they will. If we bid or £8-9m straight up they’ll drive Patterson down here.

My gut is it’ll be around £5m straight up with several add ons that will takes year to reach if they ever get reached.

It’s weird that’s he’s rated even higher on here than any Rangers or Scotland forum. It’s almost like the thought of him is better than the reality.

The player isn’t being dumped on him.
He has told Moshiri the the type of player he requires and Moshiri and Usmanov have sourced a player from a club they are confident they can get favourable terms .
Given our financial considerations do you really think we can afford to just allow the coach to go on his own little spending spree?
In lieu of the oversight of a DoF it’s the owners who will be keeping a tight reign on recruitment.
The evidence is out there if you care to look.

What's more weird is someone signing up and posting nothing but how much you don't want Patterson.

Almost like you're massively biased or something ?

I’ve hardly seen the lad, but he’s highly rated by rangers fans
( which is obvious I suppose) and has forced his way into the Scotland squad while not being a regular at club level.

You do sound quite bitter about it though, strange how you would join a forum to slag off a youngster we’re trying to buy
I’m not bitter or slagging him off. I’ve said several times I rate him, within context.

But there’s a world of difference from being a talented player in the SPFL to making it in the EPL.

Saying stuff like he forced himself into the Scotland setup makes it sound like some sort of out of this world achievement but when you actually look and know Scottish football it’s not really that unbelievable(our 3 strikers were part time footballers within the last few years). We’ve a core of 5/6 really good players and the rest you could chop and change without any real effect on the team.

My original point was that if we were to sign any Scottish RB then the smart thing to do would be to go for Ramsay. Cheaper, younger, far more potential.

Ironically the main Aberdeen transfer guy up here broke last night that Leicester have started making a move to sign him in January…

The discussion then turned because someone who clearly doesn’t watch Scottish football started claiming nonsense like Patterson was similar to Tierney and that he was a better player than Robertson was in the league. The same poster also claimed Simunovic was the second of Van Dijk and David Turnbull was the next great Scottish talent. It’s almost like he doesn’t actually watch the football and just sees Scottish players being linked in the media and makes up nonsense about them.

….I was hinting more at Barkley and Countinho with that point. Quality and attitude are definite criteria, I’d add in athleticism and a good injury record.

I’m a bit ambivalent regarding Longstaffe, I haven’t seen enough to make an informed decision, although lots on here think he’s poor & @ForeverBlue92 says he’ll only improve our bench.

Yes very fair. I think each case merits it's own analysis. With Longstaff, from the bits I've seen of him, I would say he generally always gives 100%. Stylistically he looks like we might need-in that he gets around the pitch well and gets the ball back, but on the ball is more limited. For older readers maybe more Barry Horne than Joe Parkinson. I don't think he has the "dimensions" Doucoure has, but could be a useful sitter. He also looks a big lad, every bit as tall as Joelinton in that interview who is 6 ft 2.

I've seen a lot say he is here as a squad player- which if I'm honest I see little sense in. All you hope, that at age 24, a bit like Gray in the summer, he is perhaps ready for a move and to kick on.

Barkley has gone sideways for a long time, and has never looked fit to me. I could see why the manager might want a loan as he carries the ball well.

Coutinho worries me a bit. We got rid of James to sign Coutinho. I just don't see much learning there, or much of a plan.

It's unusual for a poster to sign up and solely post about a player we are linked with is all.
They usually do that when they support the club he's coming from.
If I was a bitter Rangers fan wouldn’t I be saying the opposite of what I’ve said? Shouldn’t I be saying he’s the second coming and too good for us?

…yep, I do see that situation. The same has been happening with all the managers he’s employed. There’s nothing a manager can do about it except resign & I don’t see Benitez doing that.
