But what if he can?

Like I said, even as many as 10 games wouldn’t be the worst return, especially if he’s “on” for those 10 games

I think the gamble is worth the risk

But can you get 10 out of 18 games of him? He's not Messi. I just don't think his impact even in 10 games is enough.

You're banking on him staying fit AND him being "on it".

Not sure if this is the right thread, as it's more summer orientated, but do wonder if we will try to benefit from the connections Lampard has to Chelsea, but on a loan perspective of helping to develop players, but also from signing good young players and also talented youth players that their coaches may know.

So I'll stick a few names out there I like. Obviously we won't sign all, or even most, but there are more who I would be happy to see.

Dujon Sterling. I believe he is out of contract at the end of the season, Just turned 22 and getting good experience in the championship. 6 ft 1 right back, but can fill in at centre half. On a free with a tribunal fee at the end, to me would be a perfect option with Kenny likely leaving.

Other young up and coming players. Broja/Colwill. I think both of these on permanents (or if we can't get the loans below, maybe one on loan) would be really smart buys. Colwill is 19 and has done very well in the championship, while Brojo has done well for Southampton. They fit the template of Lampard working with Mount, Abraham, Tomori, James etc when he first started working with them. I'd be happy with either arriving on a permanent.

Ideal Loans- Gallagher/Gilmour would be a great loan option for us. I think a permanent will be too pricey, but a season on loan for either would be great. You'd probably prioritise Gallagher as he seems a bit more advanced.

Dreamworld- Callum Hudson Odoi. If we could get him in on loan, I think it would be brilliant. No idea if Chelsea would allow it, but giving him to Lampard to smooth over for a year could work.

Left field names: Harvey Vale is very highly rated there. I believe he has a year on his contract. If he could but pulled out, or other younger players, that would be quite a coup. Hopefully Lampard and the potential coaches may know 1 or 2 that we can begin to pull across.

I would try to avoid some of the more senior names if we can, the Barkleys etc. Maybe Loftus Cheek as an exception, but not wholly convinced Lampard played him much?
Some good shouts in there but hopefully we’ll cast our net wider than Chelsea in the future?

I rate Hudson-Odoi but do we need him atm? I think our front three is decent with as much depth as anywhere (though appreciate h-o could be seen as an improvement but hardly massive improvement given other priorities)

The thing your post makes me wonder is.. how good are our youngsters if given the chance? Simms did well on loan, Dobbin looks promising as does branthwaite etc maybe it’s more about trusting the youth or giving them a proper chance?

Ryan Astley is captain and player of the year for our under 23s but seemingly nowhere near the first team? What’s his progression plan? Probably released before given a real chance (first team or competitive loan).

I hope Frank addresses some of this.

He 100% won't make it at Everton.

I wouldn’t argue as I’ve never really seen him play.. but isn’t it strange that you can confidently state that (and I’m not disagreeing) yet he is our u23’s captain and player of the year for last year.. you’d expect/hope someone with those credentials would be transitioning into the first team!

Yeh I mean that's just my opinion but I am very sure on it. He's not really any better at that level than Feeney was who now plays in League 2. He's about 6ft and not strong or particularly quick so I just don't see how he could handle the PL at all. There was a lot of hoorah around him making his U23 debut at 16 but he'll still be playing for the U23's when he's 21 if he doesn't get sold this Summer. He's decent at defending but that just isn't enough in the big leagues.

Gomes is a squad player since his bad injury.
Always looks like he hasn't got the tools anymore to back up his intention.
Any midfield inc Gomes is going to struggle over 90 mins.

We have got two decent midfielders in our squad and one of them always seems to be injured.

Worked it out yet?
