Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

That shouldnt matter mate, the DoF employs the new manager or has a huge say because his job is to assemble a squad for them to use.

The reason why were in this mess is because each manager that has came to the club has dictated to the DoF, also the next manager should always be of similar style to the previous one to suit the players.

Thats why Brighton has worked so well, Potter De zerbi and now the new guy. They all play the same way with their own tweaks on the team, that why their transition of managers is smooth.
It shouldn't matter, but it does in the present state we find ourselves.

There's loads wrong with how we've operated over the previous years - and we absolutely haven't used the DoF role correctly.

But given the circumstances inherited by the new owners, and Dyche running away, I'm not surprised in that moment Moyes had some reasonable conditions for taking over a bad team that was getting worse.

Happy for some consideration to be put into incomings, as long as they do eventually occur.

We were heading towards buying our 483rd right back, but have now found that, with a bit of care in how they are introduced, our young unused giant of a centre back is very capable at RB (and as a by product of actually letting him play, turns out he has a great touch and composure), as is our slightly erratic but forward thinking actual RB/RWB who was bought specifically to play there what feels like centuries ago.

Mistakes made now could easily bugger up the supposed financial rebirth next year and beyond.

Davey can take as long as he wants, i trust him, even if we do little in this window.

If we've learned anything since 2016, its not about brining in players, its about brining in the right players.

I was encouraged yesterday to hear - he moth balled Nuamah, 0 point bringing in players that wont improve us, we've done that for years and tumbled down the table.

PSR was always a political act of spite when applied against Everton. That issue for the PL and government is gone now.

No one can calculate these PSR sanctions with any certainty. Have a go at applying all clubs who've been deducted points with their 'overspending' as opposed to those who avoided deductions with their spending. It cant be done if you're looking for it to add up.

It's now just a convenient excuse for parsimonious owners to avoid spending.
Dave its the rules of the game and the league we compete in, don't like it? fine then lets withdraw our registration and go play in the SPL, I'm sure you would love that. Most other clubs manage to keep in budget fine, we had idiots in charge who were warned about spending levels but carried on regardless then used payday type loans to build a bloody stadium. Its a new financial period this year and we have new owners and we simply must operate in it better than previously.

Said all along he'll move mate, why us though? chance to stay near his family which is hugely important to the lad, chance to emulate his great uncle who again he's on record as saying he's his role model who he wants to emulate. Chance to be the poster boy of the Everton rebuild as it leaves Goodison one last time and enters it's new home. The lad seems really grounded reckon if we got Moyes in a room with him he'd sell it to the lad

1/ O'Brien is hardly proven at RB yet. He can do a stand in job but he is obviously a CB adapting.

2/ Patterson has in no away shape or form proven he can do anything like a competent job at either RB or RWB.

In short: RB was rightly prioritised this transfer window and we should be getting one in now.

Chelsea, Leicester etc etc...all allowed to avoid points deductions.

There's no rhyme or reason to it.

Those clubs complying with it now are run by owners who dont want to spend. It's as simple as that.
