Everton 3-1 Portsmouth
Goals from Yakubu and Tim Cahill gave Everton an all important 3-1 victory against Portsmouth to keep up momentum for Champions League qualification.

In-form striker Yakubu gave Everton the lead with just seconds on the clock, heading the ball into the back of the net from a Steve Pienaar free-kick.

Despite then dominating proceedings, Portsmouth drew level on 38 minutes after Jermain Defoe got the faintest of touch to a Glen Johnson cross to draw the visitors level.

After the break, Portsmouth looked more determined but the introduction of Andy Johnson seemed to spark Everton into action, with Tim Cahill heading his side into a 2-1 lead just after 70 minutes.

With 10 minutes remaining, Yakubu added his second of the match to make it 3-1 against his former club when he beat the poor Sol Campbell and fired in a thunderbolt into the top corner.

Everton manager David Moyes: "It is an outstanding result for us. We got off to a fantastic start but then wasted some chances.

"I thought Andrew Johnson made the difference when he came on. "Pompey started the second half much better and we weren't hurting them so we needed to make the change. Andrew coming on worked for us today."

Today's match showed a real improvement in Moyes's managing ability. He has a tendency to wait too long to make substitutions imo, I'm glad he brought AJ on with enough time to have an impact.
