Everton Transfer Thread 2016

I had information on two of the above but I've not been online throughout all the last 3 weeks.

Anyway that's not relevant. The difference between the information I've provided and what's happened is not as great as most like to make out.

I was premature on Witsel, he walked away from an agreement made before his holidays, however the information at the time was 95% correct, there was a definite expectation that he was to sign. Similarly we got expressly close to Mata before Jose started playing games and his agent started touting Mata around the market place.

The rest of the stuff was correct at the time of publishing, sadly they didn't work out, so I'm pretty comfortable especially when balaced with the stuff that did happen over the last 6 months.

Appreciate not everyone sees it that way, and I'm not really into justifying myself, all I've done throughout is pass information on.

Not asking yourself to justify yourself at all. Question was if you have started doubting the information you get. I think you've answered that tbf.

Dutch it will take time. The pieces in the puzzle are starting to fit. My thoughts are look at us two to three years from now to get a better understanding on Walsh and Koeman. Myself I am psyched big time over what lays ahead of us. Nice stadium on the waterfront and I will be over the moon. Keep the faith.

Ah but Tony Cascarino predicted in The Times pre season that not only will we finish 16th but Koeman wouldn't see out the season.

I don't agree.

Value for money is what's important, or at least, who you buy with what you bring in from a sale and does it improve the team in key areas.

So far, from our major sale, that has happened.

There is a direct link between money spent on players and league position. Of course there is. Has been for a long time and that will continue.

Of course - but we are spending money on players.

I don't care if it's from a sale of a player or not. As long as the money is ALL re-invested into the squad.

In the past that hasn't been the case.

If McCarthy and Kone go, that only leaves Joel from the original "Wigan 4" that have been refused parole :)
Not a big fan of McCarthy but he isn't the worst either. And Joel done alright.
Overall a sign of progress though replacing these players, none really good enough, some more so than others.

I imagine Koeman only decided to come here because of assurances of having money to spend. Same with Guardiola, same with Mourinho etc.

On a positive note, we should still have a huge amount remaining from this Summer's budget next Summer. We could see that £100m net spend we were predicting then hopefully, with European football making it easier to attract.
Hopefully.

I'd like to play Devil's advocate to the "it takes time" crowd: How many players currently in the squad will still be around and productive following the next World Cup?

The squad is better today than it was on July 1. But the current regime aren't exactly prepared for 2018. Five regulars are well into their 30s, and its unclear how the mid-20s crowd (McCarthy, Cleverley, Besic, Oviedo) fit into Koeman's plans.

Yes, this is going to take time, but I don't think Moshiri is behaving that way just yet.
