I don’t understand why VAR will make decisions based on millimetres and yet a ref can add whatever time he fancies and it’s a complete mystery.

There were 50 seconds of the 3 minutes to play when their player got injured. Play resumed for 2 full minutes.
I’m not great at maths but isn’t that about right? edit: ignore that bit

Agreed though. Clock just just stop when the ball goes out

Thought we played all right first half. 2nd half, seemed to just want to see the game out. Didn't have the subs to change things around and players playing a full game who maybe wouldn't have done if we had more depth. Very risky playing for the 1 nil and got away with it, but threadbare squad so an excellent result.

Yeah, and think our home form before this game was a massive cloud over us, so i understand it.

Not being negative as I'm chuffed, just feel that game was harder than it should have been even midway through the 2nd half when we were in relative control.
Think with fans in, we get a 2nd in the first half and it’s a case of how many do we want

I’ll take a scruffy win as long as we follow it up on Thursday

Got the goal then slowed the game to annoy the hell out of them, in control till we started doing daft stuff in the last 20, Dacoure should have smashed it up field and the whistle goes, instead stupid ball, Keane should have smashed the ball earlier instead of trying to go round 2 players

Pleased with the win.

They were poor and we invited pressure by not attacking with conviction.

Important save by Pickford and his distribution was good.

Godfrey kept Ings quiet.

Allan started well but tired and gave away possession. Doucoure was very frustrating, he'd win the ball or make a great run then totally balls up the pass, he put us in danger a few times. I thought Gomes played very well, won the ball and was intelligent in possession. MotM for me.

We didn't make the best use of DCL's ability which was a shame because he played well and they struggled with him. Richarlison with the finish of a striker in form.

If we insist on playing out from the back we need the player's to be comfortable with it - and good at it.

40 seconds left on the clock, Southampton have a player injured and an additional 2 and a half minutes are added? He can't help himself at Goodison Atkinson.

3 points, we move on. Woohoo!

Sigurdsson pass for the goal was very similar to James in the derby.
Not a wonderful performance but thought we were good defensively.
For me Gones was the best player on the pitch.

We don't have the mentality of a Spurs or United yet, where they score they sense blood and attack, attack, attack. We have the quality to win games ugly, but until we strengthen, we won't dominate games.

Still got a really young team of promising players but with no real experience of winning... I'm hopeful for the future.
