Welcome to the forum Sean!
Welcome. Good time to be an Evertonian in Ireland I would imagine
You would think but there's never a big deal made about Everton here, especially in the media. Even with 4 Irish internationals in the team currently, or without.
Its a red dominated zone to this day, just go to a shopping centre here on a Saturday or Sunday, its like Dawn of the Dead (or Shaun of the Dead for a more recent reference!) and I don't think that will ever change.
I see a few Everton shirts now and again but on the whole this country is about as individually-minded as the average One Direction fanbase. The United shirts have even disappeared en masse because they aren't doing well anymore!
There are the great exceptions which prove the rule of course, like Sean and others and I imagine there are more Evertonians here now than there were about 10 years ago, which has improved things greatly. But we will never be the 'chosen ones' with the endless mentions in the media and the constant barrage of ads, and this affects the prospect of potential new fans. Naturally you wouldn't see this media-bias there in the UK but Ireland is strange. There's a long history of dual Liverpool and Celtic supporting. Its like a kind of automated, non-thinking conscription in a way. However, I (and thankfully some others) thought for myself and followed my own path!
When I was growing up I was once asked by one of 'their' supporters how could I support the 'non-Oirish' team in Liverpool? Aside from the idiocy of bringing that issue into things, he had no idea of the history or background of either club to back up his pathetic comment.
Sheep, baaaaaa!
