Everton's Managerial Options

Silva, from Ryan Mason.

The problem any new manager has is we live in times of instant gratification. The whole point of having a DoF and a coach is to have an ethos throughout the club. That doesn't happen overnight.

I'm not saying we should settle for 8th-15th but that's what may happen with a new style of play. The trick would be sticking with it and backing him into another season. (whoever it is)

I’d still try go for Rafael, don’t care about his past he is a top manager with a proven track record and imagine the reaction to him getting us above them lot
Absolutely certain he wouldnt come here mate, he has legend status at the pit, and i genuinely feel he still loves the club and the fans. I dont think he would betray them by coming to us. Plus, if we ever lost the derby with him as our boss, can you imaging all the web-footed norwegians with their ‘Agent Rafael’ banners :/

We have to have a succession of managers who get players on the ball and make them take responsibility for it. We've had one such manager in the last 20 years who demanded that and eventually it didn't work out. But the method was sound. Unfortunately we reverted back to the get shut of the ball ASAP method in the last two seasons and - ok league position aside - it's been tortuous and a massive waste of time, money and energy for everyone.

We may not get our next appointment right, but we need to keep employing managers who insist on developing players into players who can move the ball about and get on the ball and feel comfortable being on it - and, yes, managers who can blend that with defensive robustness. It could take a few goes getting the right man in, but we have to keep going for the same typology and not let ourselves get involved in a vicious circle of "possession-based manager" - "route one" manager - "possession-based manager" - "route one" manager. That has to stop.

Fonseca is the number 1 target, if he turns us down then Silva will get it and I'm totally fine with either.

Personally I think we will get Fonseca.

I do hope so. I suspect we’ve learnt from last/this season however and we won’t wait too long to get the important positions filled. If Fonseca makes us wait, we’ll be straight into Silva.

Tbh I’d be more comforted by Silva appointed as manager than anyone else. Not because he’s a better manager, but because it shows that Moshiri stick to his original plan and, god forbid, Silva may have even been preparing for the role advising on transfers etc. Then again Moshiri loves a spin on the roulette wheel so could easily just be whichever high profile person fancies 6 Mill a year next.

Fonseca has already interviewed for it with Moshiri, not signed a new contract with Shakhtar who are desperate for him to stay.

One thing is clear, Moshiri is ruthless, he tried to the max to get Silva before Allardyce, was not arsed about upsetting Watford, he persuaded Koeman to leave Soton, if Moshiri wants Fonseca he will go the extra step needed to get him.

Personally I think a deal in principle will be agreed and he's coming here, if not then when Allardyce gets the boot Silva will be given it quite quickly, within a couple of weeks.

We are perfect for Fonseca, he wants to come to the Prem league, and the stage is set for him to come here and get us into the top 4, that's the challenge and he'll get generous backing from Moshiri.

Utter bollocks, Silva transformed some average players at Watford into a nailed on European placed team practically overnight.

It is clear Silva has talent as a coach, I'd be more than willing to give him a go here, and I think he'd improve the football we play here pretty quickly.

Foncesa would be my pick of the managers being talked about. Silva or Wagner with a good DoF would create a new look, goodness knows we need one, I am not sure you can judge them too harshly on their past, I would like to think that either could deliver much more at a club like Everton than they could at their previous clubs. Unfortunately Fat Sam has me so fed up that I am thinking anything would be an improvement on what has been served up over the past while.

Sometimes, Moshiri's original plan, isn't always the best plan....

I'm surprised you say "utter bollocks" as that's pretty much what I said.

My worry is our 'knowledgeable' fans want the world on a stick rather than watch things come together with a proper strategy for the next 3/5 years.

Do keep up old chap, call yourself an Evertonian?

https://www.independent.co.uk/sport...-paulo-fonseca-shakhtar-donetsk-a8080861.html

Everton's search for a new long-term manager became even harder last night as it emerged Shakhtar Donetsk blocked their move for Paulo Fonseca.

Everton had targeted Fonseca to take over, whether now or after Sam Allardyce's planned interim stint, and their owner Farhad Moshiri even met with Fonseca and agent Jorge Mendes over the weekend to discuss the move.

But Shakhtar have blocked the move for now, just as Watford stopped their Portuguese manager Marco Silva from taking over at Goodison Park.
