Ex-footballers as referees

As I mentioned in another thread somewhere my cunning plan for the future of refereeing is as follows;

When signing their initial professional contract players agree and sign to a 'national service' style agreement.

This agreement entails the possibility of them being called up once their footballing days are over for 1 season as a football referee.

Not all ex-players would be needed (obviously scum like Robbie Savage can be avoided) and there would be many cases of unavailability; injury, other work commitments etc.

But I just think the idea is good enough to warrant 3 minutes of my time.

Future possibility or unrealistic, ridiculous gash?

well, are we talking top flight players or would championship sides be a better pool to pick from, as some of the clear bias at the top level could be avoided and then there is the language barrier.

who could be trusted? who would the players on the pitch respect from the retired? and the managers?

i like how some boxing works, four judges + the referee in the ring, they get four different views plus replay help, all connected to a/the computer so that decisions can be accounted for as quickly as possible and conveyed to the man on the field.

people moan about breaks in play, but how often does the game get stopped because someone is rolling around on the floor whilst team mates and opposition battle it out like trannys do, with the handbags.

Agree with the bias but I see that all the time in todays football. How can your send Alliadare off and not Mascherano. Doesn't make any sense. Unless......................BIAS.(n)

And how does the FA get away with upholding Alialialialialidiera's ban on not punishing Javier?

Bias. Easy as.

Dylan saw the replay before last nights City game. The intent is there with Mascherano no doubt. I have to admit referees are riding a thin line between becoming comical these days. I thought about that with tongue in cheek after Petrov got his marching orders and thinking how did Mascherano not even get a slap on the wrist. Something evil is lurking behind the scenes.

Dylan mate they did not uphold his ban, they actually increased it to four matches on the grounds that the appeal itself was frivolous, Mascherano has been sent mucho lucre to calm his injured pride because the naughty Boro player retaliated(n)(n)(n)(n)

This game of ours is bent, it has to be

I wouldn't want ex-players as refs. The job is a tough one which many wouldn't be suited to. I would argue that we reward referees in the premier league handsomely. I wouldn't put them on a player's salary, but they should earn far more than they do now. For that, I would expect a thoroughly professional and disciplined man. He should be judged on his performances and, if found lacking, relegated to another league, or even sacked. Couple this with goal-line technology, an FA that seeks to redress injustice whenever practically possible, and we'd see a big improvement.
