“My father was an army doctor who trained as a pathologist and later became a senior military judge. My mother came from Iran’s leading publishing house, Kayhan, which is now based in London.”

It was while at Deloitte that Moshiri got to know Usmanov, a friendship which was to become extremely valubale. According to US financial broadcaster Bloomberg the Iranian was tasked with handling Usmanov's account and soon became his confidante and personal advisor.

Soon Usmanov gave his trusted friend a 5% holding in Metalloinvest - "a small slither of a very valuable company" - and his wealth quickly grew.

Moshiri followed his friend into Arsenal in 2007 after reportedly being attracted to their “position as a top London club” and that they had built a “purpose-built” stadium.
