So I regularly get drawn into YouTube wormholes. I'll watch for example old Everton matches from the 80's and then the next video will flip to some mental conspiracy theory about how the ancient Mayan civilisation was actually ruled over by an advanced alien race. The algorithim is very strange (OK so yes, it's because of me) but it throws up some really interesting and cool stuff.

So I thought members may like to tell us about boss channels they've discovered on there.

I don't usually like the "First time watching a movie/TV show" ones but the kid who runs this one - Mellverse - is pretty funny and genuinely enthusiastic about his content and puts his material together really well. He's got tons of videos on movies going right back to the 60's and it's fascinating seeing someone younger take on films like The Godfather, Alien and Heat for the first time.

Here he is watching the '84 Terminator for the first time. He cracked me up at the 25:40 mark "Boy went multiple choice on his ass!"

AvE ... knowledgeable and critical tool reviews
This old Tony ... capable amateur machinist
Big Clive ... electronics tear downs

I watch a lot more YouTube than any broadcast TV simply because man stuff is on there, but there's not much on broadcast TV - which appears mainly set up to entertain women and those who love to wallow in emotions. Eg "repair shop" - the premise being- we'll fix this thing you've ignored in the loft for 30 years so long as you promise to cry when you see it fixed, even if all you want to do is flog it later on ebay.

I saw an outtake of the Repair Shop once where one of the repairers was a bit tipsy and some old woman brought in some daft scruffy teddy bear and they sewed its arm on where it's cock would be.

I only really subscribe to official channels for sport such as F1, Sky, BT etc and a few game developer channels. I watch all kinds of stuff though, just super anal about what I subscribe to.

Sometimes I feel like I spend more time on YouTube telling it what I don’t want to see than actually watching videos.

Any video with a thumbnail of some whopper pulling a shock face = instant judgement and a prompt click of “do not recommend channel”.
