February the month for injuries

Bruce Wayne

Player Valuation: £100m
Obviously we're familiar with this, first with Arteta last year and now Fellaini this, but I read this week that Premier League players are something like 40% more likely to be injured during February than their counterparts in Spain and Italy.

Quite an alarming statistic. Anyone care to guess why this is?

I would say partly due to cold weather but then why doesn't this number go up in late December and the first half of January when other leagues are taking longer winter breaks than in England?

maybe it's the after effects of playing in late december/jan/feb. it's quite a busy schedule around that time as well with prem/ cup comps/ replays so players over here prob. play more games than their continental counterparts, therefore increasing the chances of injury.
i think we should pioneer a winter kit, something like speed skaters wear would really put our players to the fore, although yak would need a bit of reinforcement round the back to avoid 'splitting the defence'.

Every team in England now employs the Everton model of hiring Californian surfer dudes as fitness coaches replete with their whale music, crystals and scented candles?

'Prehabilitation'. <taps nose>

I was thinking along the same lines. Honest, I was.

I suspect it is because of the FA cup ties. Prem stars facing much lower league opposition, who do not need a written invitation to kick lumps out of the more talented players so as to 'even up the playing field' a little.
