Fellaini/Castello - Initial Views?

Fellaini was good in the first half but he seem to get tired and a little roughed up in the 2nd and became quiet. He defo has potential without a doubt.

Castillo, for me, was our best player. Solid in the tackle, decent on the ball and a good passer although he did give away the ball a couple of times.

Potentially both great, but i'd like to see them play around 5 games to give an accurate judgement.

Well i was happy with Castillo, mostly because i was expecting him to be farily bad, so hes pretty good...

Fellaini didnt do enough to impress me...

...But i think its just the fact that they are working in a different team now, with different tactics, they kept getting in each others way and some other players too...and they have had about 2 days of training. Give it time, and im sure they will both be great.

The new guys did ok, i liked Castillo he did the simple things well, and some of his passing was very acute, i like the sense of fluency he gave us in turning over our play from defence to attack. It was his first game in the Prem and with the team and it showed in terms of his role in the team, however early signs are encouraging. Fellini has a long way to go, his positioning needs a lot of coaching to many times he was caught to close to other players to make himself a passing option. He needs to learn to show better for the ball and run into space, that said he seems to have a great engine and willingness to his game, i was impressed in the second half with some of his searching and intellegent passes. But he looked overall as if he didnt know what his role was in the team and given the nature of his arrival and his expeiernce with his new club that is fair enough. Signs are encouraging with both for me! I think they will perform better in games when balls arent hoofed over their heads.

I think it would be grossly unfair to judge either of them on this game as how many times would they have experienced Stokes tactics(y)

Concidering they'v trained twice with the boys i thought they done quite well. Thought Castello was the better of the two. He did'nt look out of place in DM. Fellaini looked a bit off the pace today an never really got into the game. Stoke miss out the midfield anyway. They play a horrible game, kick an rush style. I think both these lads will be quality signings for us.

Castello 7/10
Fellaini 5/10

Wasn't that impressed with either of them, but it's their first game with the club and it takes time to settle into a new team and in a new league.

I was impressed with Castillo as I've said, he defended well and he supported the back four well when we where in possession. He was always giving them an outball and on the whole used the ball well.

Fellaini had a good first half, second half he was a bit quiet. One thing I noticed is he doesn't jump alot, he's still a big [Poor language removed] though and comfortable on the ball. The potential is there, he just needs time. He's is 20 years old after all.

That's probably the hardest and most phyiscal game they will play, they both did well.

I think it was a game of two halves for both players....

fellaini showed first half, linked up well passed well won a few headers, whilst castillo was quiet, gave the ball away too much,

Second half, fellaini dropped out of the ame, gave the ball away and got bullied, whereby castillo got more involved started passing the ball better (apart from some poor long balls....ahem searching passes).

Both showed promise for their first game, and were an improvement on the Rodwell/Jags pairing.

Although I would like to see Rodders maybe start with one of the two at some point

I think that will come in time. He needs to jump more though, he's probably not used to people jumping up with him. Probably won every header in Belgium.

And he had to cope with some terrible yard dogs.

Agreed, I'm very happy with him. He's only 20 and the potential is there both physically and technically. He's decent on the ball which is a bonus.

Think Castillo could prove to another of those brilliant loan deals by David Moyes. Never heard of him before, but he looks quite capable of doing a great job for Everton. We needed a replacement for Carsley and judging on his first outing, we did get that replacement. Hopefully he'll build on today's performance, but the early promises look very exciting.

Fellaini had a quiet game I believe. Nothing spectacular, but he did okay. I know he can become an Everton crowd favorite, he just needs time to really settle in.

As i said in the match thread his challenging for high balls was awful. He ducked out of several which could of put us in trouble.

I wasn't impressed today but i'll put that down to being a newboy. Mind you i wasn't that impressed with him playing for Liege against the [Poor language removed] even though he recieved glowing reviews.

I'll give him a chance though, hopefully when he settles down he will become more confident and used to his teammates.

Castillo seemed pretty much a Carsely copy really which is good. Nothing spectacular, made tackles and played the short simple ball ( which he should stick to if todays attempts at long balls are anything to go by) and helped the defence out. Stoke only got through us once in regular play through the middle which was our achilles heel in our previous 3 games.

They must wonder what sport they were playing today. I thought Stoke were playing Aussie Rules Football.

Plenty of potential is the key theme from today for me.

First few minutes I was a bit concerned that they would not pick up the pace of the premiership and would be overawed but I think they grew into the game. Some nice touches and nice passes from both of them though there were periods were they looked a little lost.

I think they were both in a bit at the deep end having not had much time to train with and get to know their new team mates. This coupled with the fact that both have been on International travels as well makes me think that overall it was a good and promising display fom both.

Also think Moyes deserves a mention for having the balls to put them both in from the start - I dont think too many of us thought that he would but this was an ideal match to get them a bit of Premiership experience without them getting torn apart by one of the better/biggger/more established clubs midfields.

A good starter in the bank - and an air of optimism !!!!!
