But if he got a clause then we have no control over when Arsenal take Fellaini.

Not true allegedly - the clause is time limited so it has to be activated before a certain date in the transfer window, to avoid exactly the situation we had with Arteta, Rooney etc. selling on the last day with no time to bring in a replacement.

I'm surprised if EFC did insist on this as BK loves his deadline day sales. The money never reappears the next window cough other operating costs cough.

Is there a way of making clubs pay more than his buy-out clause is worth? (Or is that the point of a buy-out clause?)

Only options would be if the buy out was for a team in Champions league, and a team not in that bid, although in that case theyd just match the release anyways if another team already had done im guessing, part exes too but they hardly ever exist these days with multiple agents involved etc

Realistically though Dutch, do you reckon we'd be in with a shout of Strootman IF we was to go in for him when selling Fellaini?. I think not necessarily bigger teams, but CL teams would have a better chance of signing him more than us currently.

For me though, i just think Fer is the type of CM that would compliment Gibbo perfectly, what do you reckon?.
You're probably right regarding Strootman and I wouldn't even say that Fer is the lesser player out of the two. Also agree that Fer and Gibson would probably compliment eachother perfectly.

Do people seriously think fellaini wouldn't join arsenal?

Crazy.

Mate show some ambition this aint the arsenal of 2001 FFS they have no world class player they are a club who need dodgy ref decisions and flukey goals at the Emirates to get them top 4 if he goes there he will win **** all and be dumped out the CL when they face someone decent.

For those on about the release clause felliani himself admitted theirs no fixed fee you do realise their are other types of clauses such as allowing permission to speak to other clubs but we decide on a potential price? I believe felliani with his quotes over random newspaper's stating 3 different release clause fees ffs

I just wish our club was clearer with us on what this clause contains.

Why should they be?
I think they should tell us a lot more than they do, but lets be honest, why should they tell us a players release clause?! Being honest, a release clause shouldnt be in the public domain, if a club enquire about a player then the Club HAS to tell them about the release, other than that, no one needs to know.

I have to agree with Davek here.

It is obvious that Billy wants to make money from his investment, and his asking price proves that.

Lets say its you that is the potential buyer...which one of the following are you more likely to buy:

A club that needs serious changes to its financial infrastructure for £120 million (or whatever the figure was Collymores source stated) and then wipe out £40 million worth of debt before you can actaully 'start' improving

or

A club that needs serious changes to its financial infrastructure for £120 million.

?

Davek is spot on - for purely business factors, Billy would be better off chucking the TV money at the debt if he is serious about a new buyer.

Yes £120 million is too much, so therefore £160 million will put off even more buyers.

You missed the point. The debt is theirs, if the asking price is £120m & the debt is £40m then the purchaser would look to be giving them £80m for the equity.

If they clear the debt the asking price would remain the same, only they'd clear £120m instead of £80m.

So the net effect to the prospective purchaser is **** all, so it wouldn't be any more attractive as a proposition.

The fans are a huge part of the club, without us there would be no club, we need to know why such a low clause was put in the contract in the first place, sick of the board not telling us anything.

Take a wild guess.

Do you reckon the club will have volunteered it & set the level themselves? Don't be so naive. Fellaini's agent has negotiated both the clause & the level it's at.

The club should never have been in the position to allow the agent to do this in the first place.

I think he could be off to Zenit in Russia. They just sold Igor Denisov and have one of his best mates at the club in Witsel.
