Flying

My other half is currently attempting to fly back home with Wizz Air. They've had some bad press of late, so I'm not particularly surprised at this...

They've managed to overbook the flight by 22 people. So they held said people back (the missus being one of them) to wait for no shows. 5 free seats. My missus is one of the lucky ones, and is flying back tonight.

The other 17 have to wait until Tuesday to fly to the original destination airport or they can fly at 6am to London Luton.

That's takes a pretty special kind of incompetence / lack of crap given about your customers doesn't it?

So anyway, what are your flight horror stories? I'll bet the above is pretty tame tbf.

I went out to Austin, Texas to visit family. We all booked at different stages so the Mrs was on an earlier flight from Dublin to New York, New York to Houston, Houston to Austin. We were flying Dublin to New York, New York to Austin.

Anyway when we got to New York we experienced delays due to a storm. The wife was lucky as they flew out before the delays. But when she arrived in Houston thats when the issues started. The flight to Austin kept getting delayed for various reasons ( Plane late arrivibg from another destination, no gate for the flight, gate allocated then changed twice, pilot timed out and trying to find a replacement) that went on for hours until at 1am they just cancelled the flight and put them all on standby for the morning but they confirmed all flights the next day were fully booked so no guarantees. She ended up having to get a 2 & 1/2 Uber to Austin costing $300.

On the way back she was a on a different flight again. The evening before they informed her one of the flights were cancelled and offered options of alternative flights home, she chose the same flight as me. We get to the airport very early , queue for 2hrs at bag drop and get to the desk for her to be told shes not on the flight even though she has a ticket and is checked in. The flight was part operated by American Airlines so she runs down there and by the time she gets sorted goes back to thr desk to be told her flight is boarding so shes missed it, all while 50 yards away I'm standing in a queue at the gate that hasn't even began to board and we were actually delayed 50 minutes without any announcement.

She had to go back and stay with family and fly home the next day and the flight they gave her included a 7hr layover on her connecting flight.

That's pretty spectacular. I consider myself pretty luck as the worst I've known is a 3hr delay.

But when it goes wrong, it goes spectacularly wrong it seems.

Yeah it was a tough one for her.

To add to that there was 9 of us that went and when we all got to Austin not one of our bags arrived, including the wifes as that was in Houston still. Which was funny as we were on the Runway in New York for 3hrs but apparently they didnt have time to load them on.
