This week has seen the press full of stories about Lampard, Gerrard, and others all struggling to be fit for these Euro qualifiers and club managers warning the national coach about playing their men.

One thing that is clear, club before country argument is starting to become a norm rather than the other way round to the extent the Waiter warns McLaren not to pump pain killers into his player, Mourinho don't over train Terry and Lampard can play for his club but not his country.

Should the FA have the power to override these corporate interests. Say this weekend we were playing either Spain or Portugal, nationals of those countries could have a detrimental influence on the national team and that cannot be right:angry:

In the past most managers were delighted to have their man picked for England, clubs always felt it added to their worth and transfer value. Why isn't that the case today?

Think of it this way, if AJ had an injury and a weeks rest would mean he could play for Everton against Man Utd, but if he was given an injection he could turn out for England but then miss a few weeks for Everton.

Which would you choose?

Well, put between England winning the World Cup and England constantly fielding understrength teams and getting pumped, the answer is easy.

Weve (Aussies) have got a game against Argentina next week.

Two understrength teams, and weve (I just checked) got a sold out MCG. It hold 90,000 or more.

We have no stars coming back (maybe 1 or 2) Neil/emerton maybe.

Not sure my point to this debate, because weve sold out the stadium on second string players.

Hmm. Im now confused.

I guess I've become disenchanted with England. We've had good players for a while now but so seldom play decent football it's become a chore to watch the team play. There seems to be a prevailing attitude that performances don't matter, with the usual excuse of 'we'll play better in the big games' trotted out ad infinitum. The problem is they never do play better in the big games and never seem to realise that unless you play well in general it's very difficult to suddenly raise your game.

Yet it is perfectly ok for him to do it?? I [Poor language removed] hate that guy.

ryan giggs mystery hamstring injuries just before pointless wales games, competitive and otherwise were always a fix by man ure.

clubs could force the issue and not allow their players to join the england squad, but clubs need to keep players happy, the recent ruling regards international injuries was a step by the fa to try to keep clubs happy.

if players are playing too many games, make the CL and UEFA cup a knockout competition instead of all the league bollocks. waste of time england friendlies can get the boot as well.

there you go, i have just reduced games in a season by at least 10.

You can't say that Suits, you wanted a world challenge thing yesterday :D It'll be the same argument, if it doesn't benefit the clubs then they don't want their players playing in it. Given the 'hangovers' most players seem to suffer from I doubt they'd agree to World Cups if they could help it :)

the world challenge thing consists of 4 games, each team playing twice.

argentina vs ghana
france vs iran

then

3rd place game - ghana vs iran
first and second - argentina vs france

it would mean players getting games against sides they have never met before, and could help to expand football into developing markets.

recently england played brazil and germany at wembley in pointless friendlies.

and classic cup knock out football is the way forward. 2 legs in the quarters onwards fine, but endless leagues and chances for the so called 'big sides' is just too much.
