18 year old Midfielder James Gould joins Fylde from Tottenham on loan until the end of the season. "James is a player who will add strength to our midfield and help us in the final third. He's a good option for us to have and we are pleased to see him join the club." Duncan Ferguson told Sky Sports News.
Plymouth Argyle vs AFC Fylde

The two front runners for the title went head to head on a mild and windy night down in Plymouth. This is a huge game for both teams and a strong side was selected by both managers. New midfield signing James Gould made the bench, Tommy Smyth, Emeka Bala, John Hutchinson and John Armah were all named in the team and League One's leading scorer Lyons-Mayman was in attack. Last time hero Nick Kennerdale was on the bench but 19 year old Steve Gamble was on the left and can cause problems. The two managers shared a moment on the touchline and were in good spirits ahead of kick-off. Hutchinson found Bala, and what a ball that was from Bala through the centre of the pitch to Lyons-Mayman cutting out everyone, he took it in his stride and slotted low in the bottom right corner! 6 minutes in, 1-0! Robinson played it to Gamble, he had Preece coming against him but he got his shot off and Butts done well to tip it wide. Hutchinson went down after being kicked by Muirhead, the chants of off! rang out from the away end as the midfielder was on a booking and Ross Joyce sent him on his way! Plymouth falling apart right in front of our eyes. Fylde should have went 2-0 up on 50 minutes when Armah found Bala in the box and he only had to guide the ball in with his head and he put it wide. Bala took the ball from Westwood down the left side and cut in, he passed to Smyth who took it to the edge of the box and then smashed it into the top left corner, 2-0! Tommy Smyth with a great strike! Fylde were in full control and Plymouth could only sit back and defend. James Gould got his debut with 5 minutes to go replacing Ron Patterson. Tinme was running out for Plymouth and the away end was vibrant with "We're going to win the league" chants surfacing. Had Fylde spoken too soon? Nick Kennerdale was on and he had the beating of Chatziaros who brought him down in the box, is that a penalty? The referee thought so! Ritchie-Smith against Butts and he sent him the wrong way on 90 minutes. The Plymouth fans roared their team on inside stoppage time but Fylde held on and got their deserved win! What a night for Fylde! Is this the night they realise they are on their way up! The fans are jubilant and the players are ecstatic! Ferguson is on the pitch and he's over to the supporters, joining in with their spirit. Fylde could certainly be on their way out of League One!
Duncan, is this the pivotal moment in the season?
DF: It is a big moment in the season and can be quite significant come the end. Plymouth aren't out of the race and they can get over this recent slump and still finish strong. We know our job and it's in our hands.

EFL Trophy Quarter Final
29th January 2041
=
Fylde have never been further than the Quarter Finals of this competition. In 2038 they lost to Notts County on penalties under the management of Liam Kelly. Fylde were hit with a minor setback after finding out left back Kieran Westwood was ruled out for almost two months with a lower back injury. Westwood was sent to a specialist for treatment. Dale Alexander had his chance and was thrown in at left back for the visit of Bury. Elliot Richardson also came back into the side and Jason Breacker was named between the sticks giving Aiden Butts a break. New midfielder James Gould got his first start next to Anderson and Luke Williams was back as he aimed to become the tournaments top scorer. Zach Winstanley helped Fylde through to the Quarters and was rewarded with a start against Bury. Stuart Greene pumped the ball into the box from the free-kick and Richardson won the header, Chatziaros flicked it on to Williams who took a stab at it but it was easy for the keeper. Jay Preece put in a great cross and Luke Williams got up to head and put Fylde in front on 43 minutes! He loves to score in this competition! Bury came back after half-time and Alexander was caught ball watching allowing Agard in on goal to beat Breacker. Chatziaros done well to intercept the ball and play it forward, Luke Williams came down the left but his cross was headed back, Williams closed down Defty and won the ball inside the Bury area and beat the defender to the loose ball smashing it at goal, the keeper saved and Williams had another go and made it 2-1! What fantastic effort from Luke Williams! That's his 10th of the season! Jay Preece hit a tired clearance on 69 minutes and Paul Anderson took it down passed forward to Agard and his rifling shot was not being saved by anyone, what a strike from 20 yards, 2-2. It could be game over and this was too easy for Bury, Connolly with a ball over the top and McWilliams lashed it in leaving Breacker rooted. 3-2 with 18 minutes left. It was a mistake to take off Chatziaros for Chapman who was having a good game. Tommy Smyth was introduced after the goal replacing Anderson. Dale Alexander was having a shocker and he is really going to be up against it with Westwood sidelined. Alexander with one last kick into the box but it's cleared away by McKay and that's it. Bury advance to the semi-finals! Fylde fall at the Quarter Final stage once again and are yet to taste Wembley in this competition.
DF: I thought Luke Williams was great out there and he done a lot of work on his own, hunting down players and winning the ball back, scoring twice in the process. I tell you, their full back didn't enjoy it one bit. We changed our shape a bit and it cost us, certain players caught out in vulnerable positions and allowed their attackers too much space in the final third. Again, another season we drop out, it would be nice to win but we have our sights set elsewhere.

The window closed and despite some late interest for Tommy Smyth, Fylde held of on bids from Manchester City and Liverpool. It was just the two incomings for Fylde in Ben Haley and James Gould. Jay Preece was in great form for Fylde and was having his best ever season, however on ten minutes he came up against Wayne Calver who was giving him a rough time and Preece brought him down in the area. Castano stepped up to take it and it was Butts who came out on top with a great save! Fylde got away with one here! The game was hotting up and on 16 minutes when the ball was played into Castano, Ron Patterson came flying into the back of him taking him off his feet with a very aggressive challenge, he was shown a straight red card. Fylde had their work cut out and Brentford made the advantage count on 19 minutes when Bentley found Clancy in the area and his shot was out of reach for Butts, 1-0. Fylde were fighting back but were unable to get through the Brentford back line, with 30 minutes to go Ferguson made the changes. Smyth was replaced by Anderson and Lyons-Mayman went off for Thomas. Fylde had a chance when Armah came forward and Emeka Bala's shot came to nothing. Liam Edwards crossed the ball into the box for Bentley to nod into the back of the net, going under the arm of Butts making it 2-0. Brentford clear deserved winners this afternoon. A fifth defeat of the season for Fylde but they remain 12 points clear of Hull City in second on a day results went in their favour.

Ron Patterson was suspended after his sending off against Brentford and Ferguson brought back in Goalkeeper Jason Breacker after a disappointing performance from Aiden Butts. James Gould partnered Tommy Smyth in midfield and Stuart Greene was given in a start behind Lyons-Mayman. Fylde got off to a great start when Gould knocked it down to Greene from Alexander's cross and he played it back to Smyth who curled it into the back of the net on 3 minutes! Jay Preece put a great low cross into the box on 32 minutes which Lyons-Mayman managed to wrap his foot around and make it 2-0! 27th goal of the season! Emeka Bala done a lot of work getting the ball over to Preece to begin with. Crewe came close to grabbing one back when Adowa had the better of Chapman but Breacker showed why he was still number one with a fantastic tip over the bar. Smyth took the corner on 35 minutes but it went over everyone in the box, Lyons-Mayman hooked it back to Chatziaros who nodded it down and Greene struck to find the roof of the net! 3-0 to Fylde! Emeka Bala almost made it 4-0 just after the start of the second half when he arrived at the far post and headed Preece's cross inches wide. Crewe's persistence paid off pn 63 minutes when Luke Stanley finally beat Breacker making it 3-1 with time left to make a comeback. Crewe went three up top with 5 minutes to go but Fylde knew their job and what they had to do to see it out. They did just that with little threat from Crewe and it's a relief to see The Coasters return to winning ways!
Aldershot were on the verge of relegation as they sat 12 points adrift of safety and their task of survival was made more difficult with the visit of the league leaders Fylde. Ron Patterson had received a further two match ban for his reckless challenge and James Gould was out with illness so Anthony Anderson started next to Tommy Smyth. Ferguson stuck with Stuart Greene and Patrick Craddock and Jason Breacker remained in goal after his good performance against Crewe. Aldershot gave their supporters some hope when Winters got the cross in beating Alexander and Canham bullied Preece to head in at the far post on 14 minutes. Fast football from Aldershot! Lyons-Mayman was up against it and was having a hard time against the Aldershot defence but Fylde didn't give up, Craddock came forward down the right and played it to Bala, his first touch let him down but he managed to get it under control taking it into the area, he cut it back across the box and Greene slotted to level on 43 minutes! Batty went past Smyth and passed to Canham who played it to Hasani, his through ball for Colley was too much so Chatziaros got there and played the ball back to Breacker but there wasn't enough on it and Colley continued his run to nudge it past Breacker and restore Aldershot's lead just after half-time. Tommy Smyth pulled up with an injury on 55 minutes and had to go off, he was replaced by Hutchinson. Fylde were on the verge of losing a crucial game, Armah was on and the last roll of the dice came when young Winstanley went up front for Lyons-Mayman. Aldershot were totally dominant and as it fell apart for Fylde, they were losing their heads with each other and frustration had set in. Emeka Bala was coming in for criticism for looking disinterested and putting in below average performances. The body language on the pitch said it all at the final whistle. These lads just don't look like they care enough and what could have been something magical could slowly be slipping from their grasp.
DF: It's not good news, Tommy [Smyth] has a broken arm and is going to see a specialist straight away. We're in a tough period and it's our most crucial. It's time for us all to pull in the same direction. All our hard work we have done will go to waste if we don't buck up our ideas.

Injuries to key players hit the Fylde squad in one of their important final thirds in a long time. Ferguson took a few questions on Emeka Bala with many in the media believing the 23 year old has lost interest at Fylde and is eyeing a return to his parent club Brighton who are mid-table in the Premier League. Ferguson deflected the questions stating Bala was enjoying his loan spell and still had a lot to offer the team in the final third of the season. Ben Haley remained on the bench for Fylde as Richardson and Chatziaros were selected at the back. The midfield crisis meant it was Stuart Greene and Anthony Anderson with John Hutchinson playing ahead of them. Telford kept it tight in the opening minutes and Lyons-Mayman was forced to play with his back to goal, he took the ball from Hutchinson and played it left to Bala who got it onto his right foot and found a gap for the shot which found the bottom right corner on 3 minutes! What a strike! That doesn't look like a player who has lost interest! Three minutes later Armah foated the ball into the box, Bala rose above Baker to win the header and it looped over the keeper! 2-0 to Fylde! Bala and Armah with a dance to celebrate! John Hutchinson was trying to get the third in the second half but was denied by a great save by the keeper. It was Jay Preece who found the third with a delightful free-kick from 30 yards that went into the top left corner! A solid team performance from Fylde as they put the defeat to Aldershot out of their heads. From the back to the front they performed like champions and Telford were just not able to match them.

Oldham just missed out on promotion last season but this one wasn't going too well being 8 points adrift of play-offs. Fylde were having a fantastic season and just had to keep going and winning ugly if they have to. James Gould was available since injury and went into the starting lineup alongside Ron Patterson who had returned from suspension. 30 minutes in and no real chances, Armah got on the end of a good ball from Hutchinson but was more worried about being offside and put the shot wide. Lyons-Mayman took the ball inside the Oldham half on 56 minutes but had five men around him, he played it back to Hutchinson who sprayed it wide to Armah on the right in acres of space, he crossed into the box and Bala was there to slot at the far post! Emeka Bala once again! 19th of the season! James Gould got a good 70 minutes under his belt and was replaced by Stuart Greene. Hutchinson with a little chip over to Preece on the right who crossed in but Bala was elbowed by Henshall and the referee awarded a penalty. Henshall got away with a card for that challenge. Who will take the kick, it looked like Greene was going to take it but Lyons-Mayman stepped in, he has missed from the spot this season so let's hope he can rectify it today. Lyons-Mayman took a stuttering run up and sent the keeper the wrong way but hit the post! John Armah pounced on the ball and tucked it away! The Fylde fans can relax a little. "We're going to win the league" rang around Mill Farm as Fylde were on course to another victory!
DF: We're getting closer but it's still not over. A tough trip to Cardiff is next and we know they will make it difficult for us.

There was no change to the side that beat Oldham a week earlier. Kieran Westwood was still being monitored and not ready for a return to action. Dale Alexander was doing a good job deputising whilst Westwood was out. Cardiff were still very much a threat and still had every say in this year's title race. Booth came down the left for Cardiff and tried his luck from the wide position clipping the post on 4 minutes. Emeka Bala was being allowed space to cut inside on his right foot but his finishing was a bit off so a bit of a let off for Cardiff. Ben Jones linked up well with Andy Farrell on 23 minutes and Farrell beat Alexander easily to cross in for Jones who smashed it past Breacker at close range. 1-0 to the Bluebirds. Armah took it forward and played it to Lyons-Mayman a few minutes later, he passed to Gould who found Bala cutting inside and his right footed shot beat the keeper and flew straight into the corner off the post! 1-1! Bala is back! Fylde went in at the break on top and Cardiff could not deal with their pressing. Fylde were caught on the break on 55 minutes, Jones picking the ball up from outside his own box, drove forward, went past Chatziaros and then Richardson and smashed it past Breacker making it 2-1. That has to be one of the goals of the season. Stuart Greene replaced John Hutchinson with 30 minutes to go. Cardiff played the ball into the box and Alexander's arm was out, the referee gave Cardiff the penalty on 65 minutes. Block took the kick and went down the middle making it 3-1. Cardiff on their way to victory. Jay Preece came close to getting one back when his free-kick hit the face of the post on 83 minutes. Fylde were humbled today despite having good spells in the match. Ben Jones' solo goal is one that'll be played for many years. Hull and Plymouth were also beaten so Fylde maintain a 14 point lead at the top of the table. With ten games to go Fylde are almost certain to take top spot but we've seen teams collapse at this stage before.
Fylde made one change, Anthony Anderson replacing James Gould in midfield. Kieran Westwood was still not ready to return and would likely be fit at the weekend for Mansfield. Armah done well to keep the move going when he kept the ball alive in midfield and played a superb ball into the box which Lyons-Mayman sniffed out and slotted past the keeper on 2 minutes! Although Fylde lead it can all turn around and it is an anxious time for the supporters as they want to secure the title as early as possible. The fans got some breathing room on 66 minutes when Armah played it to Hutchinson and the ball bobbled loose into the box but Lyons-Mayman was there once again to tuck it home and give Fylde a two goal lead! Butler was played through on goal on 80 minutes and his shot looked destined for the bottom corner but Breacker pulled off a magnificent save. It's saves like that that help win titles but Birmingham were looking on the up and Hudson was allowed space on the edge of the box and he beat Breacker a minute later grabbing one back for Birmingham. Birmingham were pushing forward in numbers and Fylde could only sit back and defend. The whole ground fell silent in the last ten minutes as they watched on nervously. The board went up for an additional six minutes to the disgust of the Fylde staff and supporters. Fylde just had to defend and Ben Haley, who came on in the second half was keeping the line organised. Chatrziaros gave away a foul on the edge of the box on 93 minutes. Edwards put the ball into the box and Breacker was there to claim. Bala came forward, beat two and played in Lyons-Mayman for his hattrick but he shot wide. Fylde got back on the ball and moved it around until the whistle was blown and the win maintains a 14 point lead at the top. Not long to go.

Kieran Westwood returned to the side but Tommy Smyth was still a few weeks away recovering from a broken arm. Fylde were guaranteed at least a play-off place with a win against Mansfield but automatic promotion has to be their minimum aim this season. Westwood came close to getting on the scoresheet when he arrived in the box on 2 minutes and hit the post. Fylde got a corner out of it and Hutchinson crossed in for the head of Richardson who found the back of the net! The keeper got a hand to it but couldn't stop it crossing the line. Jay Preece came close to doubling the lead on 23 minutes when the keeper pulled off a great save to stop his free-kick going into the top corner. Patterson lost the ball to Daws who had a chance to counter, he ran forward with only Preece and Chatziaros back, he played it through to Leigh and he beat Breacker to level on 42 minutes. Fylde made an interesting change with 15 minutes to go, Westwood went off for Alexander and Williams came on for Lyons-Mayman with Emeka Bala going into the sole Striker role. The change had little effect and the match ended a draw. Fylde had the most chances but Mansfield defended in numbers and held on for the point.
Duncan, how far off are we from sealing the title?
DF: If you know football, you know this isn't over. The gap has reduced to 12 points and we have to keep fighting. I've told the players it's not time to relax, we have to keep the pressure on otherwise all our hard work over the season will have been for nothing. Can you imagine all that hard work down the drain? We have to finish the job.

Reporters caught up with Tommy Smyth this week who was nearing a return to action. The 20 year old said he is itching to get back and is doing all he can in his recovery to play in the final six games of the season. Westwood suffered a setback and was out for the trip to Lincoln so Alexander came back in. Ron Patterson was suspeneded for an accumulation of yellow cards so Gould and Anderson made up the midfield. Jay Preece sent a long ball forward, Lyons-Mayman held off Riley and slotted into the bottom corner on 18 minutes! 30th of the season in all competitions! Lyons-Mayman had a chance for a second when he got on the end of Armah's cross and his header hit the outside of the post. Preece played the free-kick from deep into the box, Ruichardson headed on and Bala struck for goal but it was saved, he got another go at it and buried it on 39 minutes! Pole found Osman Yilmaz on 49 minutes and his long range effort shocked everyone swerving past Breacker into the net, 2-1. Stuart Greene came on for Fylde and got an assist with 5 minutes to go when he sent the corner in for Lyons-Mayman to head in and make it 3-1! Fylde run out winners in Lincoln and the supporters stayed behind to celebrate a massive away victory as they keep the gap to 12 points with 7 games to play.

Fylde could seal promotion if results go their way but need to do their own job first. Ferguson was on the verge of a remarkable comeback season with another trophy almost in reach. Westwood was back for Fylde and went straight in at Left back. Tommy Smyth was not quite ready and wasn't in the matchday squad. The supporters were in fine voice as a win today could secure promotion if Plymouth fail to win. Bala came forward with the ball on 6 minutes and the fans rose to their feet, urged on by the roar he got towards thr box but a great tackle took the ball away from him, Lyons-Mayman got to the ball and smashed it into the roof of the net! Fylde in front! He's over to the fans behind the goal as he secures his 30th league goal of the season! Fylde are going up as it stands! Preece took the free-kick on 23 minutes sending it towards the far post, Armah won the header but was fouled in the box by Hilton. On loan midfielder James Gould put the ball down, we haven't seen him take a penalty yet, with his right foot he went right and found the bottom corner! 2-0! A confident finish! Fylde are looking good and this could be the game that sends them up!`Fylde started the second half in the same vein, Bala stepping up his game and when he won the header finding Lyons-Mayman on 54 minutes who then played it to Armah, he got on the end of his cross and headed in to make it three! Ben Haley came on for Chatziaros in defence with just under 30 minutes to go. Armah was playing some fantastic football and got another assist when his low cross found Bala who struck in to make it 4-0 on 70 minutes! The news circulated around Mill Farm on 70 minutes that Lincoln City had gone 1-0 up at Plymouth! It was party time in Kirkham! Richardson lost the ball on 72 minutes and Bremner was in on goal but Breacker made a great save. Lincoln went 2-0 up and the volume increased at mill Farm, Fylde are going up! Every pass was being cheered and the fans were loving it. Duncan Ferguson kept it business as usual but there was smiles amongst him and his backroom staff. His name rang around the stadium and they loved it when he punched the air but Chesterfield grabbed a consolation goal when Bremner beat Richardson and drilled it past Breacker on 88 minutes. Fylde were waiting for thr whistle and had 3 minutes of stoppage time to get through. The ball went up the other end of the pitch and the whistle was blown! Fylde have done it! They will be in The Championship next season! The fans are loving it, the players are loving it. Ferguson was all smiles on the touchline as he congratulated his players on their way off the field. Duncan Ferguson has done it yet again!
Duncan, the job is done, how does it feel?
DF: We're delighted we've sealed promotion but we still want the title and will keep going until we win it. The season has been fantastic, we are loving every minute of it but we have worked very hard to achieve this and our club deserve to be going up. We've had a few seasons of difficulty but we have finally got back to where we belong. The next job is to get our hands on the trophy.

NO PUNCHES PULLED WITH DANNY ROWE
What a manager we have! His first full season in charge and he pulls it off like it was nothing! The man deserves a stadium named after him for everything he has done for this club and god I hope he leads the charge when we are playing in The Championship. He was the last manager to get us promoted to The Championship in 2032/33 and has gone and done it again. This is the sixth promotion of his managerial career! What he is doing at this club is nothing short of phenomenal. We know he isn't going to be here long due to his age but let's enjoy it while we can. He looks like a man twenty years younger and you can see it in his face that he lives and breathes this game. He is lost without football in his life and I know he won't be going anywhere just yet. He is the best manager this club has had and possibly one of the best in the football league. I sincerely hope he can achieve his dream of managing in the Premier League but doing it with the club he loves, Fylde. His stock will have grown once again and clubs will be looking to him after this season but we have to give him everything he wants. Allow him to buy whoever he wants and let him run the club his way. He needs backing in The Championship due to it being a big step up. Potter needs to put his hand in his pocket once again to ensure this club establishes itself in The Championship and beyond. What an achievement! Up The Coasters! NOW GO AND WIN THE TITLE!
