As you've probably noticed, I've made a few changes to the forums home page.

At the moment I think it's looking a bit loud, but after a bit of tweaking I'm sure it'll be an improvement, offering some added functionality to the home page.

Cheers fella.

The idea is to make the forums home page more than just a sign post to each forum. Like the slideshow is basically a 'Featured Discussion', so we can reward quality threads with some more exposure.

The 'Latest Discussion' block make sure you don't miss any new thread. I also want a live 'Recent Posts/Threads' bit that basically will show each post live, so you don't have to click through the forums.

Will need some tweaking to make it work, and feedback always helps.

Ah, OK, I see this discussion is going on in various places...

Why do you look at the front page of a newspaper or website? To see if anything catches your eye of interest. If there isn't anything there then (or especially if it doesn't change) most regular users will skip whatever is most convenient for them (sports pages/cartoons/whatever).

So for the front page to work:
i) there needs to be clear signposting of what is potentially interesting
ii) there needs to be regularly changing content to get people going back there as their entry point to different interesting options
thus
iii) if only the forums remain "interesting" then the forums become the front page for some people

Can help with that Danny as you already know... re: the VIP lounge thread - discussed yesteday.....

but this page will just be a satellite for the forum won't it abit like a fanzine although maybe not of that scope ? ...

basically danny - the man Atrottel's described "informatics" ...

his tips are entirely accurate and you should listen to them methinks.

Agree mate. Its what I've tried/trying to achieve (y)

Still some way off yet though. Our forum version software is still in its infancy.
